This is a library of higher level functions that I need all the
time. Things like reading a file with full error checking. Or a mkdir
-p equivalent.

For db:

Slackware: just works
Ubuntu: apt-get install libdb-dev
RedHat/Centos/Oracle: yum install libdb-devel
