Jumpcut appears to be a 32-bit application. Unspecified bad things will happen to 32-bit applications in future versions of macOS. How easy/hard is it to update this to a 64-bit architecture?

Jumpcut is the first piece of software I install on any new Mac and I'll be bereft if I have to change to a different clipboard manager :( More than happy to fire beer-tokens in the direction of anyone who can sort this!

Leaving this ticket open for now, but you'll be happy to know that I just purchased, for the first time in years, a non-antiquated MacBook to do some personal development on, so I am planning on modernizing Jumpcut to run as a good 64-bit application. I'll close this ticket when such a thing is available.

+1 to the 64-bit version. On my mac, jumpcut just started firing an error on startup (not compatible)

Eagerly awaiting a 64 bit version! As mentioned above, Jumpcut is far superior to any other clipboard manager.

Love the app and would happily donate to help with funding! I've used JC for more than a decade and it's one of those vitals that I couldn't imagine my life without.

However it's been dodgy since I upgraded to OSX Mojave 10.14 and I've been dreading that JC may have finally become obsolete (with all these system warnings of 32 v 64 bit apps).

In digging around for any forums for JC, I found someone recommended AlfredApp.com to be an alternative. I consequently discovered they have specific Accessibility prefs for Mojave users and I thought maybe that's all JC needed to start working in Chrome again (was my main complaint of not working).

So I followed their lead and Jumpcut is working in Mojave like it did in 10.13 with their added prefs for me! 🎉

Here's the Accessibility changes I updated to keep JC running for me:

  • System Preferences> Security + Privacy> Privacy Tab> Accessibility Option> Add Jumpcut to the List
  • System Preferences> Security + Privacy> Privacy Tab> Full Disk Access Option> Add Jumpcut to the List
  • System Preferences> Security + Privacy> Privacy Tab> Automation Option> Add Jumpcut to the List
  • Restart Jumpcut

Hopefully it works for you like it did for me. 🤞 for another few years of usage or someone reaches out to get funding for JC v. 1.0!

xoxo.

Alfred is an excellent app that I use personally (although not for what Jumpcut does). I've got a clean 64-bit build that I'm working on at the moment, now that my big project of December/January has wrapped up; I'll push it up as a separate branch, although it has not yet hit feature parity with the 32-bit build. (But I'm making progress at a good clip.)

Yes, as far as I can tell, enabling accessibility support is required for Jumpcut to be able to paste into other applications. (I do not believe that Full Disk Access or Automation are required for Jumpcut; Alfred is an application with a much wider set of behaviors.) I'm still using High Sierra, but my wife is using Mojave, and she is running a recent build successfully on her laptop as of tonight.

An update, since I know people are very interested: I've gotten the core functionality of Jumpcut working in a 64-bit build. I need to hook up the Sparkle "check for updates" library, and get Launch on Login working, and then I'll do a build. There are some cosmetic issues that I'll address at a later date (e.g. the transparency preference hasn't been ported yet), but I'd like to get a functional release out sooner rather than later, especially now that the Catalina betas are out there in the world.

I'll try to get this pushed up to a branch by this weekend, so that if I get hit by a bus people will be able to do their own builds.

NOTE: See #13 -- you'll need to right-click to open this in Mojave, and the workarounds in Catalina sound unpleasant. I'll release another build tomorrow that's been notarized and hopefully that will work better. (0.7.0b1 is code signed but not notarized.)

I'm on macOS 10.14.6 and this worked for me:

Screen Shot 2019-08-22 at 1 19 56 PM

I noticed that the Master hotkey wasn't set in the new version, I had to add it back in.

@turanct

turanct commented Aug 28, 2019

Jumpcut stopped working after upgrade to Mojave 10.14.6:

  • it started up correctly
  • it captured the cmd+c history correctly
  • it showed the bezel correctly

but when trying to actually paste one of my pastes, it didn't do anything.

Solution was to go into System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy, find the "Accessibility" option, and enabling it for Jumpcut. Same for the "Automation" option.

bunk3m commented Sep 1, 2019

Quick note: The new 0.7b2 doesn't remember the secure password copy/paste as it should. Thanks for including this in the update!!

2 Quick question. What was the default hotkey? I'd like to test it but don't want to set a hotkey that will interfere with the defaults in macOS. Could you post the old default or suggest a hotkey combo that has worked well for you? Thanks in advance for answering this silly question.

Second question. If I remember correctly the 32bit version would allow you to double click on a menu item to paste it (to the cursor)?? This doesn't work anymore.

@snark
Copy link

snark commented Sep 1, 2019

@bunk3m Default hotkey is command-option-V.

The old version didn't allow you do double-click on a menu item to paste it, that I recall--if that's a feature you're interested in, open an issue, although I'm not sure how the UX would work for that. (It's possible that someone had a forked version over the years that behaved that way--possibly Flycut?)

@MaiYunfei2000 You've checked the Accessibility tab, Jumpcut is present, and the checkbox is checked? If so, you may have hit some sort of weird bug caused by upgrading (you aren't the first one to report this), as I can confirm that the paste behavior working on 10.14.6. My suggestion is to open the Accessibility tab of the Security & Privacy pane, remove Jumpcut, and re-add it manually (click the "+" button, find the application).

If that works for you, I'll add a note about this on the website.

0.70 on Mojave
Received upgrade notification; download didn't succeed; tried upgrading from within Jumpcut 0.63 - no better luck.
Manual download via github, expanding and install worked fine.
Removing and re-adding to Security/Accessibility was needed: only Jumpcut icon is visible in Accessibility panel, application name seems to be blank.
Otherwise Jumpcut 0.70 seems to work as expected on Mojave 10.14.6.
Sincere thanks for this timely 64-bit gift to latter-day Macintosh users, plus more thanks for a decade+ of unobtrusive, trouble-free function of the former version.

@salbjerg Thanks, that's very helpful.

I confirmed the download issue on 0.63, which has to do with SourceForge changing the response behavior on "sf.net" -- it redirects to sourceforge.net as a canonical address, and Sparkle won't follow it. I'm not sure if this is an inherent limitation of Sparkle, or it has to do with the fact that it's a non-https URL, but either way I don't think I can fix it.

Re the issue with upgrading, you should have received a one-time alert message when you launched 0.70 -- did this happen? Was it clear? I think I'm going to open up an issue about this; I'm not sure if there are any code solutions at this point, but I can put some information on the website. I'm happy to accept suggestions on the phrasing of the alert message (for a future 0.71, I guess) and the instructions on the website.

I just opened an issue for discussing the Accessibility behavior -- as I said, I don't think there's going to be a way to mitigate this in code, but I'm happy to workshop the language for the website/README.
