64 bit support? #12
Comments
+1 |
Leaving this ticket open for now, but you'll be happy to know that I just purchased, for the first time in years, a non-antiquated MacBook to do some personal development on, so I am planning on modernizing Jumpcut to run as a good 64-bit application. I'll close this ticket when such a thing is available. |
I would love that too ! I tried every pasteboard managers out there and Jumpcut is the only one that's worth-it. |
Yeah it would be great. Jump out is so simple and powerful. I just can't imagine a mac without it ... |
Oh snark, a 64-bit version will be highly appreciated! |
+1 to the 64-bit version. On my mac, jumpcut just started firing an error on startup (not compatible) |
Eagerly awaiting a 64 bit version! As mentioned above, Jumpcut is far superior to any other clipboard manager. |
FANTASTIC! So grateful for this. Jumpcut is one of the very first pieces of software I install on any new Mac. 😁👍🏻

Can we help in any way ? Last time I tried I couldn't build the app… |
+1 from the Jumpcut lovers fan club... |
+1 I use it at work every day. |
Love the app and would happily donate to help with funding! I've used JC for more than a decade and it's one of those vitals that I couldn't imagine my life without. However it's been dodgy since I upgraded to OSX Mojave 10.14 and I've been dreading that JC may have finally become obsolete (with all these system warnings of 32 v 64 bit apps). In digging around for any forums for JC, I found someone recommended AlfredApp.com to be an alternative. I consequently discovered they have specific Accessibility prefs for Mojave users and I thought maybe that's all JC needed to start working in Chrome again (was my main complaint of not working). So I followed their lead and Jumpcut is working in Mojave like it did in 10.13 with their added prefs for me! 🎉 Here's the Accessibility changes I updated to keep JC running for me:
Hopefully it works for you like it did for me. 🤞 for another few years of usage or someone reaches out to get funding for JC v. 1.0! xoxo. |
Alfred is an excellent app that I use personally (although not for what Jumpcut does). I've got a clean 64-bit build that I'm working on at the moment, now that my big project of December/January has wrapped up; I'll push it up as a separate branch, although it has not yet hit feature parity with the 32-bit build. (But I'm making progress at a good clip.) Yes, as far as I can tell, enabling accessibility support is required for Jumpcut to be able to paste into other applications. (I do not believe that Full Disk Access or Automation are required for Jumpcut; Alfred is an application with a much wider set of behaviors.) I'm still using High Sierra, but my wife is using Mojave, and she is running a recent build successfully on her laptop as of tonight. |
+1 jumpcut fandom. Current version works in mojave. |
+1, there is NOTHING out there that could replace Jumpcut (and I just looked, after the OS warnings). Thanks for still working on it, Steve, much appreciated! |
On my Macbook, after upgrading to Mac OS Mojave 10.14.3 it doesn't work anymore. Any suggestions? |
I'm on 10.14.3 and it still works for me! I dunno what i would do without JumpCut, it's SOOO perfect! thank you @snark, awesome job! |
It's a gem I've been using daily, nay, hourly, for years. Would not bother me if you decided to charge for it. Delighted to hear you're working on the 64 bit. |
I agree with @jpwynn completely. Happy to pay. |
Love Jumpcut! |
Mojave 14.14 has Jumpcut working for me. Also looking forward to the update. Been using it and testifying about the extension for years. Go @snark go! |
Happy to read a 64 version is coming, happy to pay too |
I've recently upgraded to Mojave 10.14.5 and now I can't open Jumpcut 😢 I followed the steps that @zepgurl suggested but every time I try to open the application from Spotlight I get the following system message from the Finder: The application “Jumpcut” can’t be opened. |
+1 64-bit jumpcut. Thanks Steve/snark! Do let me know if you want any help with the project. I'd be happy to pitch in. |
An update, since I know people are very interested: I've gotten the core functionality of Jumpcut working in a 64-bit build. I need to hook up the Sparkle "check for updates" library, and get Launch on Login working, and then I'll do a build. There are some cosmetic issues that I'll address at a later date (e.g. the transparency preference hasn't been ported yet), but I'd like to get a functional release out sooner rather than later, especially now that the Catalina betas are out there in the world. I'll try to get this pushed up to a branch by this weekend, so that if I get hit by a bus people will be able to do their own builds. |
This is fantastic, thank you for your efforts! I use JumpCut countless times every day, it's a life saver! |
YES !! Thank you very much !! |
The 64-bit branch is now up; I'm targeting a release (at least of a beta and hopefully of a proper version) in the next two weeks. |
By the by, folks, the 64-bit branch is, as far as I can tell, feature-complete. I'm on vacation but when I'm back next week I hope to get a beta up via GitHub releases. |
Thanks for the update, snark! Amazing! |
NOTE: See #13 -- you'll need to right-click to open this in Mojave, and the workarounds in Catalina sound unpleasant. I'll release another build tomorrow that's been notarized and hopefully that will work better. (0.7.0b1 is code signed but not notarized.) |
A new beta has been released, that hopefully got hardening and notarizing working correctly. |
Awesome! Thank you for your efforts! -------- Original Message --------Subject: Re: [snark/jumpcut] 64 bit support? (#12)From: Steve Cook To: snark/jumpcut CC: vincentkersten ,Comment A new beta has been released, that hopefully got hardening and notarizing working correctly.

Jumpcut stopped working after upgrade to Mojave 10.14.6:
but when trying to actually paste one of my pastes, it didn't do anything. Solution was to go into System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy, find the "Accessibility" option, and enabling it for Jumpcut. Same for the "Automation" option. |
Quick note: The new 0.7b2 doesn't remember the secure password copy/paste as it should. Thanks for including this in the update!! 2 Quick question. What was the default hotkey? I'd like to test it but don't want to set a hotkey that will interfere with the defaults in macOS. Could you post the old default or suggest a hotkey combo that has worked well for you? Thanks in advance for answering this silly question. Second question. If I remember correctly the 32bit version would allow you to double click on a menu item to paste it (to the cursor)?? This doesn't work anymore. |
@bunk3m Default hotkey is command-option-V. The old version didn't allow you do double-click on a menu item to paste it, that I recall--if that's a feature you're interested in, open an issue, although I'm not sure how the UX would work for that. (It's possible that someone had a forked version over the years that behaved that way--possibly Flycut?) |
Folks, the final version of 0.70 is up: https://github.com/snark/jumpcut/releases/tag/v0.70 Please let me know if you have any problems. I'm going to try to get a Sparkle appcast up for the old version -- I'm pretty sure I have my old Sourceforge credentials still. |
As far as keyboard shortcuts go, I've been using "Ctrl alt cmd v" for decades (as a "special paste") and never had a collision :) |
I'll leave this ticket up for a couple more days. If you encounter any problems with the official 0.70, please open a ticket! If you don't have problems, please let me know in this ticket (including what OS you're on); I'd like to collect a few positives. |
Heart-felt thanks! But after my jumpcut upgraded to v0.70, I can't open it: click the icon of this app and nothing happen. I've checked and made sure that it has accessibility. macOS Mojave 10.14.6 |
@MaiYunfei2000 You've checked the Accessibility tab, Jumpcut is present, and the checkbox is checked? If so, you may have hit some sort of weird bug caused by upgrading (you aren't the first one to report this), as I can confirm that the paste behavior working on 10.14.6. My suggestion is to open the Accessibility tab of the Security & Privacy pane, remove Jumpcut, and re-add it manually (click the "+" button, find the application). If that works for you, I'll add a note about this on the website. |
0.70 on Mojave |
Exactly the same here, everything working smoothly otherwise.

@salbjerg Thanks, that's very helpful. I confirmed the download issue on 0.63, which has to do with SourceForge changing the response behavior on "sf.net" -- it redirects to sourceforge.net as a canonical address, and Sparkle won't follow it. I'm not sure if this is an inherent limitation of Sparkle, or it has to do with the fact that it's a non-https URL, but either way I don't think I can fix it. Re the issue with upgrading, you should have received a one-time alert message when you launched 0.70 -- did this happen? Was it clear? I think I'm going to open up an issue about this; I'm not sure if there are any code solutions at this point, but I can put some information on the website. I'm happy to accept suggestions on the phrasing of the alert message (for a future 0.71, I guess) and the instructions on the website. |
I just opened an issue for discussing the Accessibility behavior -- as I said, I don't think there's going to be a way to mitigate this in code, but I'm happy to workshop the language for the website/README. |
Sorry, I didn't mention the notification which *did* pop up at 1st launch
of 0.70.
I had seen the subject mentioned already by you, I believe, and others,
so I went directly to the Privacy/accessibility window after barely seeing
the
notice, not really reading it. So I cannot say if it is easily, clearly
understood
by a reader who is not well primed & ready to go.

@salbjerg Legitimate feedback, thanks! If anyone is running the Catalina betas and can confirm that Jumpcut works, I'll close out this ticket; I've verified on High Sierra and Mojave, which is what I've got available to me at the moment. |
Closing this item, since everything seems to be working reasonably well on Mojave; if we discover issues with Catalina, we'll open a new issue. |
Seeds have been out for quite some time. If you have an apple business
manager for DEP you can assign out seed accounts now for IT testing.

Thanks, @ecwh -- let me know how it went. |
0.71 works fine (macOS Mojave 10.14.6 on an MBP). |
Sorry about the delay.
10.15 Beta (19A558d)
Appears to work on Catalina Beta without issue. No default master hotkey
is configured on a fresh system, which could confuse new users.
Tested successfully:
- Master hotkey set to raise bezel
- Copy paste
- Bezel selections
- Bezel paste
- Confidential feature - triggers system sound on attempt to copy secret
field and item not copied.

@ecwh 💯 Thanks for testing! It sould start with a default hotkey, though; I'll add an issue for that. |
@snark - Jumpcut 0.71 still shows up in > About This Mac > System Report > Software > Legacy Software as 32 bit. Does that mean it won't work in Cataline? |
@blahster Sorry for the slow response -- I just reinstalled 0.71 via Homebrew, and it shows up in |
Jumpcut appears to be a 32-bit application. Unspecified bad things will happen to 32-bit applications in future versions of macOS. How easy/hard is it to update this to a 64-bit architecture?
