Need to test against a large sample of subreddits and see whether this correlates to some setting, or whether cats in particular just disfavor entropy

It's not just the API; even on the website, for some reason /r/cats/random redirects back to the front page of the sub:

https://reddit.com/r/cats/random

This is apparently tied to the subreddit preference "allow this subreddit to be exposed to users in /r/all, /r/popular, default, and trending lists." Nothing to do; closing
