This command will show the concretized spec if you pass it any spec.
This is very useful for determining what will be installed before
actually going through with the installation procedure.

You can also do spack install -I, once #2664 is merged: the idea is it tells you what it's going to install, and then goes on to install it. If you don't like it, you can just press ^C. Not for everybody, but it is an option. If you think this would be useful, please speak up over on #2664

I'm closing this thread because spack spec already does what the OP wishes for. Feel free to re-open if I've missed something.
