I had totally forgotten about this (and I regret not visiting the Uni during/after OpenCon 2016) but I recently remembered the university (had previously written several uni assignments and projects about sign languages and the Deaf community) and thought that it would be absolutely fascinating to have someone from Gallaudet University share some experiences and stories.
For those who don't know Gallaudet Uni, some wiki blurps:
Founded in 1864, Gallaudet University was originally a grammar school for both deaf and blind children. It was the first school for the advanced education of the deaf and hard of hearing in the world and remains the only higher education institution in which all programs and services are specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students.
Gallaudet University is officially bilingual, with American Sign Language (ASL) and English used for instruction and by the college community.
What do you think of this? Also wanted to share this as I thought that some of you might know more as it is based in DC.

Thank you so much, Asura. I had been considering something like recently
from a few angles. It's extra helpful to have a suggestion like this on the
table.
I don't think we'll be able to commit either way in the near term, so will
leave this open in the backlog for us to review in future. Thank you!
