Why do the FontAwesome icons not load?

Using mkdocs-material 8.5.7 in a project set up with Poetry on Windows, and the following configuration:

markdown_extensions:
  - markdown.extensions.attr_list
  - pymdownx.emoji:
      emoji_index: !!python/name:materialx.emoji.twemoji
      emoji_generator: !!python/name:materialx.emoji.to_svg

Icons like :smile: work fine, but :fontawesome-regular-face-laugh-wink: simply render as-is, the text is not replaced.

Is there anything I need to configure to make this work? At first, I thought I might have to replace twemoji in the configuration with fontawesome, but that resulted in an error message as well.

How are the icons loaded? I set a breakpoint in EmojiPattern.handleMatch() and self.emoji_index['emoji'] appears to contain 3571 entries, but none with fontawesome in them:

I can see the .icons folder with the fontawesome SVGs in it in my Poetry cache dir, but can you point me to the code that's supposed to load them, so I can troubleshoot?

Never mind, I actually ended up debugging this myself and found an issue with this line: https://github.com/facelessuser/mkdocs-material-extensions/blob/master/materialx/emoji.py#L43

I'll open an issue there.
