This PR reverts the work done in #595, #602 and #603 - the code is currently not being used and the chosen implementation relies on undefined behavior in the language (the ability to catch Defect) - as such, it would need to be rewritten, should it prove useful in the future - this PR can thus serve as inspiration in such an effort.
