Heart unicode character preview shows as coloured emoji #235

Referring to this character: ♥. It shows as just a normal character that respects the font colour and so on. That's the one I wanted to use. But I could not find it on the site.

On another site I found it! And it seems it's actually the same as this one on the site. But the preview on the site doesn't look anything like a normal character, but instead looks like an emoji. So if you're looking for specifically a character that is not an emoji, you're not going to actually click on such an icon preview and find the one you're actually looking for because it doesn't look like the one you're looking for.

So obviously, a fix to this specific preview would be great. Or potentially, an option to not show "previews" but just whatever the browser that's used would show (saving on bandwidth too, I assume). Edit: seems actually these are shown in the heading/title of the page, but as the set image preview is shown in searches, I'd never even click on it in the first place.

But also, I'd request a feature to be able to search for only unicode non-emoji characters.

And also (if this is a thing, you'd know better than me), have a way of copying the non-emoji version of a character that is an emoji. Like the smiling face page has the non-emoji version in the title of the page, and heading: ☺. But presumably people would want to be able to "copy" that too, right? I keep clicking the arrow on the "Copy" button thinking there might be a "non-emoji" option or something like that. Would be a nice inclusion for any symbols this is a possibility for.

(Sorry if there is a different place for requests; I appreciate this is half-request half-bug report. This is just the only way I see of getting in touch with the devs. I don't use Facebook anymore.)

your OS may automatically convert that non-emoji into an emoji for displaying, happens for some symbols for me too

I'm talking about the preview shown large on the character's page, and in the search results. Versus what the browser shows if it's actually rendering that character.

If you're trying to use the site to find a symbol that looks a certain way, you want to see what it actually looks like, not an image of what it might look like in some circumstances on some device. I get that it looks nicer, showing fully-rendered emojis all the time. But that can be the opposite of useful to users of the site and search.

If we could at least toggle whether it shows those images or shows the actual characters in our browser, it would be way, way more useful to me as a developer.

That's what this issue was opened regarding.

I get it now, I thought the preview was the symbol itself at very large font, and didn't realise that is actually a placeholder image. Yes, I agree that is quite inconvenient.
Same thing is happening for half the symbols in the "Playing card symbols" group, which is where the heart symbol is from.
