Guidelines on how to name repositories in GitHub at TCS

Here are some suggested guidelines on how to create repository names that are descriptive and searchable.

Repository names should use lower case letters only and be delimited by dashes

Use 'src' as prefix for source code repositories

src-<language>-<functional area: optional>-<project name>

Examples: src-java-student, src-java-mobileapp, src-cf-isso, src-ps-vas, etc.

Use 'proj' as prefix for repositories for projects (not affiliated with source code)

Example: proj-datacentermove, proj-internalaudit, etc.

Use 'www' as prefix for repositories with web content

Examples: www-homepage, www-jsom, www-studentaffairs

Use 'scripts' as prefix for repositories that are primarily to store scripts

Examples: scripts-oracle, scripts-sqlserver, scripts-windowsserver

Use 'product' as prefix for repositories containing artifacts for vended products

Examples: product-jira, product-salesforce, product-ansible

Use 'temp' as prefix for repositories that are used for limited periods

Examples: temp-bomgarpoc, temp-awstesting

Use 'infra' as prefix for repositories containing infrastructure as code that applies to more than one (or none) existing repos

Examples: infra-aws-sftp-servers, infra-cloudflare-global-config, infra-aws-lightsail
