Introduction

The Terms Guardian project aims to help everyday people understand complex terms and conditions, agreements, and other contracts commonly found on the internet. Ensuring the security of this project is crucial to maintaining user trust and protecting sensitive information. Security is a top priority and integral to our mission.

Scope

This security policy applies to all aspects of the Terms Guardian project, including code, data, documentation, and infrastructure.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Developers: Responsible for writing secure code and conducting code reviews at least once per sprint.
  • Security Team: Responsible for monitoring, identifying, and responding to security threats. Conducts quarterly security audits.
  • Project Maintainers: Responsible for enforcing the security policy and ensuring compliance.

Security Practices

Code Security

  • Perform regular code reviews to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities.
  • Use static code analysis tools to detect security issues before code is merged.
  • Follow secure coding practices and guidelines, such as OWASP.

Data Protection

  • Encrypt sensitive data both in transit and at rest using standards like AES-256.
  • Implement data anonymization and pseudonymization where appropriate.
  • Regularly audit data access and storage practices.

Access Control

  • Implement the principle of least privilege for accessing code and data.
  • Use multi-factor authentication (MFA) for accessing critical systems, with no exceptions.
  • Regularly review and update access permissions.

Dependency Management

  • Regularly update dependencies to patch known vulnerabilities.
  • Use tools like Dependabot to automate dependency updates.
  • Conduct security assessments of third-party libraries.

Incident Response

  • Define clear procedures for identifying, reporting, and responding to security incidents.
  • Maintain an incident response team that is prepared to act quickly.
  • Document and review incidents to improve future responses.
  • Include a communication plan for notifying affected users and stakeholders.

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements, such as GDPR and CCPA.
  • Regularly review compliance status and update practices as necessary.
  • Provide documentation to demonstrate compliance efforts.

Training and Awareness
