I bought a new Mac Air on 10/2/2011
These instructions were really helpful.
An issue that I found is that before running the homebrew steps I had to install XCode first.
It was not installed by default.

I don't think XCode is a prerequisite anymore with newer versions of Homebrew but maybe we should change our opinion in the README.
