Hi,

For my work, I need access to extended Latin glyphs and phonetic characters, as well as (occasionally) math symbols. Unfortunately, setting Unicode fallback fonts in Emacs is a royal pain in the neck; it would be much more convenient if these symbols were simply available as part of Fira Code.

I find that the Menlo font on Mac (which is almost identical to DejaVu Sans Mono) has almost exactly the same metrics as Fira Code, and a very similar style. Could you just copy over the Latin Extended, phonetic symbols, and math symbols blocks from DejaVu Sans Mono into Fira Code (and then tweak the glyphs later if necessary?). It would save me a lot of grief.

Thanks.

Probably not, but you can create your own version of Fira Code where you
did that change, can’t you?

Sure. I just thought it might be useful for others as well (and copyright might not be an issue since DejaVu is a free font?).

I’d recommend you to open an issue on Mozilla’s Fira repo, they usually
listen to requests (although don’t expect them to react quickly, releasing
a new version of a font takes months)

In v2 I added couple of Unicode symbols. Maybe you could be more specific in what is still missing? I could add those in the next version

I think what I was looking for at the time was IPA Extensions (U+0250–U+02AF), Latin Extended Additional (U+1E00–U+1EFF), and Mathematical Operators (U+2200–U+22FF).

These days, though, I mainly use Iosevka, which has all of the characters I need.

Ok thanks, I’ll consider adding those
