The difficulty system increases Horde's difficulty in a multitude of aspects.
- Health scaling. Enemies have increased health.
- Damage scaling. Enemies deal increased damage.
- Numbers scaling: The number of enemies that you need to defeat in a wave increases.
- Intensity scaling: Enemies will spawn closer and in larger packs. The maximum number of alive enemies will also increase. In short, this makes you feel that enemies are coming faster and denser.
- Players receive less starting money.
- Players receive fewer kill rewards.
- Ammo boxes spawn less.
- Random mutations do not appear on Normal/Hard.
- Random mutations occur more often on Nightmare difficulty.
- Endless scaling is exponential, starting at Wave 11.
- The additional health/damage scaling from endless mode will stack with the difficulty system.
- Players receive increased fall damage. On Realism, they receive realistic fall damage as would in Counter-strike: Source.
