The default is "off for UNIX". I can reproduce it natively on both OS X and less frequently on Linux (more clearly linked to poor MatchParen performance there). I assume OS X is worse because OS X terminal performance is worse. The echo doesn't bother me personally but okay, I'll throw in the towel on this one. |

set showcmdcan be very annoying.Now, what I can't explain is that removing the
setcommand resolves my issue of hjkl being echoed, yet:help showcmdstates its Vim default value is "on." That does not seem to be the case, and if it were, then remove it anyway because it would be redundant.
