"Surveillance capitalism" terminology? #25
Comments
This is a term from a book of the same name, referring to a particularly awful consequence of the current web architecture. Alternative language is appreciated, or we could cite the work https://www.amazon.com/Age-Surveillance-Capitalism-Future-Frontier/dp/1610395697/ref=asc_df_1610395697/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312143020546&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7575155693093931338&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031645&hvtargid=pla-608244850048&psc=1 |
or we could just use the term 'surveillance', without any qualifier. |
I think being more specific than just "surveillance" would be good, if Zuboff's term is too polemic or divisive. Perhaps "unwanted tracking/correlation mechanisms" or "scaffolding for correlation"? How's this for an alternate version of #8:

I like your new version of point 8. |
Removes "Surveillance capitalism" term Will fix #25
(Term used as no. 8 of the required features.)
I do not think it is appropriate to use this term. "Surveillance" is not bound to "capitalism"; other societies, past and present, have or had a practice of surveillance (alas!). In my view, the term "surveillance" should suffice.
