(Term used as no. 8 of the required features.)

I do not think it is appropriate to use this term. "Surveillance" is not bound to "capitalism"; other societies, past and present, have or had a practice of surveillance (alas!). In my view, the term "surveillance" should suffice.

This is a term from a book of the same name, referring to a particularly awful consequence of the current web architecture. Alternative language is appreciated, or we could cite the work https://www.amazon.com/Age-Surveillance-Capitalism-Future-Frontier/dp/1610395697/ref=asc_df_1610395697/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312143020546&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7575155693093931338&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031645&hvtargid=pla-608244850048&psc=1

or we could just use the term 'surveillance', without any qualifier.

I think being more specific than just "surveillance" would be good, if Zuboff's term is too polemic or divisive. Perhaps "unwanted tracking/correlation mechanisms" or "scaffolding for correlation"? How's this for an alternate version of #8:

  1. Preempt/limit trackable data trails
As "cookie" and other session/state-tracking mechanisms were gradually turned into scaffolding for unwanted or collusive tracking in the evolution of the web stack, so too might any new data exchange or communication systems unwittingly facilitate unwanted tracking based on new data trails. Resistance to this kind of third-party or cross-service correlation needs to be designed into new systems. (Anti-exploitation and Privacy).

I like your new version of point 8.
The last sentence can be reduced to:
"Resistance to these kinds of surveillance exploits need to be designed into new systems."

I agree with the comments made in this thread and have created a Pull Request to implement the suggested text (#80). I'll discuss this with fellow editor @jandrieu
