Open Font Format Updates (Kida)

Kida provided a summary of the Open Font Format (OFF) ad-hoc group meeting held on August 18:

• The group agreed to revise the b64k proposal, allowing font developers to choose how b64k fonts behave on pre-b64k systems—either ignoring the fonts or exposing a subset of their glyphs.
• Japanese font developers are encouraged to provide input on the proposed variable glyph components and the expansion of the glyf table to support cubic curves.
• Concerns were raised about the complexity of managing 16 system variations, given the release of four new features. Possibility of an industry-wide coordination was mentioned.
• The meeting began by adhering to formal ISO protocols, as suggested by Murata-san.

WCAG 2.2 Updates (Shimono)

Shimono-san summarized key points from the meeting between the i18n Working Group and the Accessibility Working Group:

• A note will be added to section 2.2 to manage international user expectations.
• Understanding and preamble materials for 2.2 will undergo further review.
• An errata will be developed for 2.x specifications.
• The two groups committed to collaborating on enhancing international language support in WCAG 3.0.
• Murata-san expressed disappointment over the lack of planned normative changes for vertical text conformance.

Shimono-san suggested sending an update to AC reps. Kida will handle this.

jlreq-d Content: "Differences Between Digital and Print Text"

Discussions took place on the Wiki:

• Members agreed to keep the introductory section light.
• There are two options for detailing the “differences” content: either integrate the details into each section and/or centralize all details in one place.

Drafting Responsibilities:

• Comparison of Japanese and English layout: Yamamoto-san
• Layout details: Bin-sensei
• Accessibility: Murata-san
• Fonts: Nat
• Completing the “differences” introductory chapter: Kida

Action Items
