Practice Issue: Feel free to comment! #1

Hi Dave! |
Hi, all! I don't see an edit button on the wiki page (to add my name to a task force). Do I need to be a collaborator to edit? |
Tim, I just added you as a collaborator. Anyone else, just ask me and I'll add you. |
Thanks! |
I signed in to Accessibility and Education. I should probably be monitoring the Testing and Validation TF, especially if it also involves epubtest.org, because of the BISG connection. We didn't discuss epubtest.org on the call. Is that part of the T&V TF? |
Yes, epubtest.org would be a topic of interest to a testing and validation task force. |
We had a separate idpf group for the test suite initially but all it did was make coordination complicated as it and epubtest.org became more tightly bound, so that's how BISG ended up taking charge of both. It might be better to look at expanding that BISG group than striking up another. (Assuming that group is still a going concern.) Of course, if there are other testing issues (epubtest.org has its objectives), I'm not arguing against a task force. |
Remote-resource properties are not available on the "features support" page. Why? Does anyone have information? -> http://epubtest.org/features/ |
@teytag my guess is that no one wrote a test for those features. |
@mattgarrish I need to talk to Brian about BISG's role in all this. BillK: This will be on the agenda for the PBG call next week. Brian will be calling in. We've been waiting for him to be available to put it on the agenda. |
Thanks for info @dauwhe ... But I know that EPUB-Checker does not accept this feature (remote-resources). |
For me Github is okey. No problem about to use it. Have a nice day... |
How best to handle epubtest.org and the BISG Grid is an open and ongoing discussion between the W3C, BISG, and DAISY. There are good arguments for keeping the Accessibility testing as is but changing how the "mainstream testing" for epubtest.org should be done. While it's presumed those three organizations will still collaborate on this, the roles may shift now that IDPF is part of W3C. |
OK, I am putting in a new comment Oops, It looks like I can edit my own comments, like this one, but not others, which is fine. |
George is adding a new comment here. |
In trying to figure out how to save my comment, I accidently closed it, but seeing the error of my ways, I re-opened, hopefully. so, trying to figure out how to save my comment. |
@GeorgeKerscher this is all part of learning to use GitHub. You have successfully demonstrated that one can close and reopen an issue without losing any information. |
@teytag If you can demonstrate what problem epubcheck has validating the remote-resource property, please document it in the issue tracker for that project. If it's that vendors aren't allowing remote resources independent of what epubcheck validates, or reading systems don't support, there's nothing that can be done about that. |
@dauwhe please add me as a collaborator or at least add me to the test & validation task force :) Thanks. |
Hi @mattgarrish |
Hi, I'm a user of the NVDA screen reader for Windows, by @nvaccess and its community, and of TalkBack for Android. You can add me to the accessibility subgroup to contribute on GitHub. Thanks. |
Hello! Can I be added as a collaborator? Thanks! |
Commenting to become a collaborator @dauwhe |
@rickj, can you edit the wiki already? All the steering committee members should already have access. |
|
Hi, |
Let's start. |
@dualpixel Felipe, if you're also interested in helping with EpubCheck Java develepment, feel free to contact me or Romain Deltoru (@rdeltour) for further planning. |
@dauwhe My name is peppo bonelli and I am a digital publishing consultant base in Milan, Italy. I was member of the old idpf epub/edupub group. Glad to meet again you all here. __peppo |
Hi @dauwhe! I'm here to take part to the CG. Thanks, |
@dauwhe, please add me as a collaborator. I would like to be involved in the Testing & Validation, as well as the Accessibility task force groups. Thanks. |
@dauwhe Sorry I missed the first telecon! Happy to participate, representing Kaplan Publishing and Kaplan Test Prep. Can you add me to Accessibility and Education? Thanks! |
My rather aggressive corporate spam filter has decided this thread is spam. If you also have to deal with aggressive spam filters, you might want to add github.com to your permitted list. |
@dauwhe May I get edit rights as a colloborator, too, or would you prefer to restrict that right to members of the steering committe. I would also like to add further EPUB modules to be looked after in the "Specifications" section if that is OK for you. --> thanks, Dave :) |
By the way, what's the difference between a colloborator and a contributor? Does the last category have more access rights? |
I'm looking for the Education TF/Group but can't locate it. Can someone point me in the right direction? |
Re epubtest.org, since a primary issue is resources to maintain, test, etc., wouldn’t it make sense to adopt a certification model like IMS Global does with LTI compliance and have the Reader platforms contribute a modest fee to support the site, since they would benefit from being listed as a compliant platform?

BTW, I wanted to reply to Bill K's post directly here in Github, but it was unclear how to respond in line with his post, so I did so via email. If someone would school me on how that works, I'd appreciate it. |

Hi @dauwhe. |
HI, @JFTavares |
Thank you Matt :) |
Hi, @dualpixel |
Hi Dave: |
|
Hi Dave, please add me too. I'd like to put my name in Accessibility list of participant. Thanks. |
Hi @tofi86 |
Hello Dave, I've communicated with Avneesh this morning, so am on the a11y task force. Thanks. |
@teytag To be honest, I don't understand yet, what your goal ist. Please open a new issue at the EpubCheck issue tracker and describe your usecase a little bit more. |
@teytag wrote:
This issue is not the place for substantive discussions--it's just a way for me to add people to the project, and to allow people to practice with GitHub. So as Tobias said, please open an issue in the EPUBCheck tracker. Thanks! |
It was quite easy to create my personal epubcheck fork in my Github account - to be able to experiment with damaging the master. I could also download it as a zip and extract it on my hard disk, but creating a clone doesn't work with any method or Git client because I'm sitting behind a very strict corporate firewall (which I don't have any influence to change) and all the necessary ports (e.g. 443) seem to be blocked. What would be the best method to upload files, to generate a pull request or asking for comments? How do you upload files into a specific directory? Thx for your kind assistance and patience! |
@WSchindler, best to ask about epubcheck-specific issues in the epubcheck repository: https://github.com/IDPF/epubcheck/issues. Thanks! |
Hi all and @RachelComerford @dauwhe I'm volunteer to create samples. Also, the word "Guideline" can be added for 8.2.8 learningResourceType - Recommended Values |
Hi Dave, I am from India and work at Apex Covantage. I would like to contribute for Testing & Validation and accessibility groups. Best Regards, |
Hello! Thank you, sending regards, |
Hi @dauwhe, I have been developing quite a few epub-related tools (mostly reader-oriented) and am working to update them to epub 3.2 (btw, it fixed all the issues I had with older versions of epub 3). I have also contributed to epub.js and have had experience working with and troubleshooting e-readers and apps (Kobo, koreader, Sigil, multiple Android apps). You can find them on my GitHub profile and on the MobileRead forums. On a side note, what is the proper capitalization of epub? EPUB, ePub, ePUB, or epub? I can't seem to find a consensus on this. Can I be added as an collaborator? Patrick P.S. I won't be able to attend the call today, but I might be able to drop by the IRC channel. |
The consensus is now EPUB :) |
