This issue is a placeholder for anyone wanting to add more details in relation to w3c/imsc#82 for consideration by TTWG in 2019. If no such details are added, this issue should be closed.

This is not about adding images to IMSC Text profile documents - for that, see #15.

The Timed Text Working Group just discussed Add support for embedded images to IMSC Image Profile tt-reqs#16, and agreed to the following:

  • RESOLUTION: Close this issue.
The full IRC log of that discussion <nigel> Topic: Add support for embedded images to IMSC Image Profile tt-reqs#16
<nigel> github: https://github.com//issues/16
<nigel> Nigel: This seems pretty straightforward?
<nigel> Pierre: I asked a question on w3c/imsc#82 - someone called @shobanaberlin mentioned fragmented MP4 HLS.
<nigel> .. I've received no response to my question.
<nigel> Gary: It's in the HLS RFC.
<nigel> Pierre: Right, fMP4 supports images so I don't understand this comment. There's literally an MPEG spec
<nigel> .. for embedding images in MP4.
<nigel> Glenn: What has that got to do with this requirement? Aren't you raising a separate issue?
<nigel> Pierre: No because you don't need to embed in the IMSC document if you can embed in MP4.
<nigel> .. The commenter asked for a way to get images in fMP4 and there is literally a spec for it so I was trying
<nigel> .. to get more information on it. I haven't seen the use case where it is impossible to do it other than
<nigel> .. embedding in MP4 then we could do it, but big XML documents filled with base64 encoded images is
<nigel> .. not great.
<nigel> Cyril: I'm with you here, there's a spec here for doing it as binary blobs, referenced by MPEG.
<nigel> Nigel: We have a significant concern here, a better alternative way of doing it in ISO/MPEG 14496-30,
<nigel> .. and no support, and no feedback from those who commented.
<nigel> .. We have consensus to close this without taking it forward.
<nigel> RESOLUTION: Close this issue.
