better iPad layout

Inspiration

Contacts app by Apple with show and detail view on the same page. For this app, the list view on the left will be the list of events / repos and the detail view on the right will contain the details.

Not sure if a modal view with a vertical scroll bar would look simple. Also next time, there will be a map that will get the user's location, etc etc. Better not to have a modal no?
