Why Open/Close Source?

Some projects, like the capstone project, could be considered to make the repo private because the project might contain sensitive business information about the client. The private repo can give more control over who can access the project or who can contribute/modify the content. An improper open-source license can also result in the company's intellectual property loss.

Open-source applications, such as the Signal Private Messenger, may use a public repository to encourage collaboration and contributions from the broader developer community. By making the code publicly available, developers can quickly examine and modify the code, which can lead to improvements and bug fixes. Additionally, open-source applications often rely on a community of developers to help maintain and improve the application over time.

Customers may prefer to use a private repository for more control over access and collaboration, while open-source applications may use a public repository to encourage developer community contributions.
