Help shape CodePen Theme 1.0: test Original and Custom
#4
CodePen Theme 1.0 is a major change. I am exploring two color directions and would like feedback from people who use the theme in real projects:
Direction
What it aims for
Original
Classic CodePen/Twilight token roles: blue bindings, white types, purple members, yellow keywords, green strings.
Custom
A distinct programming-role hierarchy using the CodePen palette: yellow types, blue declarations and control flow, purple callables, white values and members.
For this test, each direction has its own VSIX with a regular and an Italics theme:
Install a downloaded file using Extensions: Install from VSIX and select the theme using Preferences: Color Theme. VS Code 1.96.0 or newer is required. Both test packages have the same extension ID and version, so uninstall one before installing the other, then reload VS Code. The final 1.0 plan is one extension package containing both Original and Custom, with their Italics options. These separate VSIX files are only for comparison during testing.
Please tell me
Which direction works better for your everyday code, and which parts of the other direction would you keep?
What looks wrong or hard to read? Please name the language and token (for example, a class declaration, parameter reference, annotation, method call, or CSS property), and the color or role you expect instead. A short code snippet and screenshot help.
Which tokens should be recolored, and what still needs to be finished before 1.0? Feedback on workbench colors, italics, contrast, and language coverage is welcome too.
If highlighting changes unexpectedly, include your VS Code version, the active theme, whether semantic highlighting and codepen.syntaxRefinement.enabled are enabled, and the relevant language extension. Developer: Inspect Editor Tokens and Scopes output is especially useful when available.
The 1.0 migration removes bundled language grammars and uses VS Code or recommended language extensions for syntax scopes. Please also report files that lose useful highlighting after this change; see the migration guide.
