Release list
v0.12.0
A big one for TC002 owners, and a few things everyone will enjoy. Update from HACS, restart Home Assistant, and you're set: your apps keep working as they are.
✨ What's new
🖥️ Your TC002 finally uses its whole screen
On a Ulanzi TC002 running AWTRIX NG, apps used to be drawn at double size, so most texts had to scroll. A simple app can now use all 52 × 16 LEDs, sharp and pixel for pixel. Open an app, pick a Layout, and choose what fits:
- Value: one big, easy-to-read value.
- Title and value: a small title above the value, like
Poolover27.5°C. - Value and progress bar: perfect for a battery or a tank.
- Two entities, one per line: indoor and outdoor temperature at a glance.
The icon is optional, and gallery icons are drawn at 16 × 16 so they don't look tiny next to the text. You can pick the fonts too, among those that stay legible on the clock. The preview shows the result exactly as the clock will draw it.
Not into layouts? Nothing changes: your apps stay on one line until you pick one.
🖼️ Your clock's own icons, right in the panel
On AWTRIX NG too, the icons you stored on the clock now show in the panel: on the app cards, on the simulated screen and next to the icon field. On a TC002, 16 × 16 icons show in full detail.
Animated icons from the LaMetric gallery are now saved on AWTRIX NG clocks once, like on AWTRIX 3, instead of being sent again with every update.
📏 A unit of your own
Next to Show the unit, type the unit you want. Turn a bare 750 into 750 GB, or show kWh instead of kW. Leave it empty to keep the entity's own. Each entity has its own, on a line or in a layout.
🛠️ Fixed
- 🎨 Colors on a line of entities (AWTRIX 3). When several entities shared a line, they all ended up in the same color. Each one now keeps its own, including colors that follow a gradient.
- 🧩 Icons on AWTRIX NG before 1.2. These versions could not read the icons sent with an app (the clock's log said
inline icon is not a JPEG the decoder can read). Awtrix Studio now checks the clock's version and speaks its language. We still recommend updating the clock to AWTRIX NG 1.2 or newer, so that animated icons play. - 🖼️ Icons that came and went. Some larger icons stored on the clock showed in the panel only now and then. They now show every time, on AWTRIX 3 too.
- 🧹 A stray "null" in the app editor, under the display options, is gone.
- 🔧 A Home Assistant warning about how the clock's device was looked up no longer shows in your logs.
⬆️ Updating
Nothing to do: your apps, icons and settings are kept. On a TC002, try a layout on one of your apps to see the difference. 😉
🙏 Thanks
Many thanks to u/dyabolikarl for reporting the colors of a line and the missing icons, and for the idea of a unit of your own, to korruptcow for the clock's log that showed where the icons went wrong, and to everyone who tried the betas on their clock. Keep the ideas coming!
v0.12.0b6
Beta. HACS only offers it if you enable beta versions for Awtrix Studio (⋮ → Redownload → Show beta versions).
New since 0.12.0b5
- Custom unit. Next to Show the unit, type the unit you want, for example
GBafter a bare750, orkWhinstead ofkW. Leave it empty to keep the entity's own. Each entity has its own, in a line or in a layout.
Also fixed in 0.12.0b5
- A stray "null" in the app editor. In simple mode, the word
nullshowed under Background and effects, at the bottom of the display options, and sometimes above the entity when no layout was chosen. It is gone.
Also fixed in 0.12.0b4
- Larger icons of the clock in the panel. Icons stored on the clock that weigh a few kilobytes, often animated 16 × 16 ones, showed in the panel only now and then, or not at all: their file was read before it had fully arrived. They are now read whole. This also applies to AWTRIX 3 clocks.
From 0.12.0b3
- The clock's own icons show in the panel on AWTRIX NG too. An app whose icon is a file stored on an AWTRIX NG clock, like
co2, used to show no icon in the panel. It now shows on the app cards, on the simulated screen and next to the icon field. On a TC002, a 16 × 16 icon is drawn at its full size, in a one-line app as in a layout. - Animated LaMetric icons are stored on AWTRIX NG clocks. As on AWTRIX 3, Awtrix Studio drops them into the clock's icons once, so they no longer travel with every update of the app.
Also fixed in 0.12.0b3
- The colors of the entities on one line. On AWTRIX 3, a line of several entities showed all of them in the same color: each entity now keeps its own, also when its color follows a gradient.
- Icons on AWTRIX NG before 1.2. These versions could not read the icons sent along with an app (the clock's log said
inline icon is not a JPEG the decoder can read). Awtrix Studio now reads the clock's version and sends icons in the form it takes. Updating the clock to AWTRIX NG 1.2 or newer is still recommended: animated icons only play inline from 1.2 on. - A deprecation warning of Home Assistant about looking up the clock's device.
Layouts on the TC002 (from 0.12.0b1 and 0.12.0b2)
On a TC002 running AWTRIX NG, a simple app can use the whole 52 × 16 screen, one LED per pixel, instead of one line at double size: Value, Title and value, Value and progress bar, or Two entities, one per line, with a choice of legible fonts. The icon is optional, and a gallery icon is drawn at 16 × 16.
Existing apps keep working as they are. There is nothing to change after updating.

v0.12.0b2
Beta. HACS only offers it if you enable beta versions for Awtrix Studio (⋮ → Redownload → Show beta versions).
New since 0.12.0b1
- Choose the fonts of a layout. Under the layout, pick the value font among the legible 8-pixel fonts: bold (the default), light, or one of the wide ones, which read best but only fit short values next to an icon. For Title and value and Two entities, pick the title or lines font too: light (the default) or bold. The preview shows each font as the clock draws it.
Layouts on the TC002 (from 0.12.0b1)

Existing apps keep working as they are: they stay on one line until you pick a layout.
v0.12.0b1
Beta. HACS only offers it if you enable beta versions for Awtrix Studio (⋮ → Redownload → Show beta versions).
New
- Layouts on the TC002. On a TC002 running AWTRIX NG, a simple app can now use the whole 52 × 16 screen, one LED per pixel, instead of one line drawn at double size. Pick a Layout in the editor: Value, Title and value (the label in small letters above the value), Value and progress bar, or Two entities, one per line. The icon is optional, and a gallery icon is drawn at 16 × 16. Text stays legible: a light 6-pixel font for titles and lines, a chunky 8-pixel font for values. The preview shows the layout pixel for pixel.
Existing apps keep working as they are: they stay on one line until you pick a layout. An app with a layout imported on an AWTRIX 3 clock is shown on one line.
Thanks
Thanks to the TC002 owner who asked for apps drawn pixel for pixel instead of at double size.
v0.11.0
New ✨
- Several entities on one line. In simple mode, Add an entity shows up to five entities side by side in the same app, like
UP 750 DN 30. Each one keeps its own label, decimals, unit and color (fixed, by steps or along a gradient). Tabs switch between them, and you choose what goes in between. An entity with no value drops out of the line, and the app leaves the rotation only when none is left. On AWTRIX NG, the whole line takes the color of its first entity. - Icons stored on the clock now show in the preview. An icon named after a file on the clock, like
smile, used to be a black square in the editor. It now shows on the app cards, on the simulated screen and next to the icon field.
Fixed 🔧
- An icon given by its number shows on the clock right away. Typing
2355instead oflametric:2355looked fine in the preview, but the clock showed no icon until you uploaded the icon to it yourself. A number now means that LaMetric icon, and Awtrix Studio sends it for you. If the clock already has its own file with that name, the clock's file is still used.
Existing apps keep working as they are. There is nothing to change after updating.
Thanks 🙏🏻
All three changes come from your suggestions on Reddit. Thank you to u/dyabolikarl for the idea of several entities on one line and for reporting the icons that would not show, and to u/Jealous_Matter3398 for asking to see the clock's own icons in the preview. Keep the ideas coming!
v0.10.0
New
- AWTRIX NG and the Ulanzi TC002. Awtrix Studio now also drives clocks running AWTRIX NG, including the Ulanzi TC002.
- Adding a clock detects its firmware by default (Detect automatically), or lets you pick it.
- Simple apps, indicators and display options are written in NG's own JSON for you: the same app works on AWTRIX 3 and on NG. In template mode, write NG's JSON; the starter templates show how.
- The clock's refusals are shown in the panel. NG rejects unknown keys; the app's card then says Refused by the clock, and the editor names the key.
- Effects, weather overlays and palettes offered in the editor are the ones the clock announces.
- The loop order is stored by the clock and sent once, keeping the apps you switched off on the clock switched off.
- Animated LaMetric icons play, sent inline with the app.
- The clock coming back online gets its apps again, also on a TC002.
- On a TC002, the preview shows apps the way the clock draws them, at double size on a 26 × 8 grid, and the mirror shows the whole 52 × 16 screen.
- The preview draws bitmaps, and AWTRIX NG drawings.
Moving a clock from AWTRIX 3 to AWTRIX NG
Export its apps, add the clock again with its NG prefix, and import them. Simple apps move as they are. Template apps keep AWTRIX 3's JSON and must be rewritten with NG's keys (the import flags them), and icons named by a number refer to files that flashing NG erased: name them lametric:<number> instead.
v0.10.0b1 (beta)
Beta, for testing. Built from #2, not merged yet. HACS only offers it when beta versions are shown for this repository.
New
- AWTRIX NG and the Ulanzi TC002. Adding a clock now detects its firmware by default. On AWTRIX NG, apps and indicators use NG's topics, simple apps and display options are written in NG's own JSON, the loop order is stored by the clock, animated icons play inline, and the clock's refusals are shown in the panel. On a TC002, the preview shows apps at double size on a 26 × 8 grid, and the mirror shows the whole 52 × 16 screen.
- The preview draws bitmaps, and AWTRIX NG drawings.
For AWTRIX 3 clocks
Nothing should change: this beta is also a check that existing apps, icons, the loop order and the mirror keep working.
