v0.3.2

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Oct 15:55

Controller vibration: works with more controllers over Bluetooth (newer SDL, e.g. 8BitDo Ultimate 2), with a strength slider in Esc > Controls (0 = off). Vibration stops while the menu pauses the game.

Small changes.

v0.3.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Oct 16:06

Updates no longer recompile the game code unless it actually changed: after this one, most updates start in seconds. Installing this release still compiles it one last time.

Small changes.

v0.3.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Oct 15:41

Linux and Steam Deck support: download TenchuZ-linux-x64.tar.xz, unpack it and run TenchuZ (see the README). The first start compiles the game code from your disc with a compiler included in the package.

Also: blood on characters is red again instead of black, and small changes.

Windows: the first start after this update compiles the game code again once.

Tenchu Z PC v0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Oct 20:50

First release of the native Windows port of Tenchu Z (Xbox 360) by static recompilation.

No game code or data is included. On its first start the game compiles itself from your own disc image.

How to play

  1. Download TenchuZ-windows-x64.zip below and unzip it anywhere you can write to (not Program Files).
  2. Install Python 3.11 or newer (tick Add python.exe to PATH) and Visual Studio 2022 Build Tools with Desktop development with C++ and C++ Clang tools for Windows. They are needed once, for the first-start compile.
  3. Run TenchuZ.exe, pick your Tenchu Z (USA, Europe) disc image (.iso) and confirm. A console window compiles the game code (about 2 minutes on an 8-core PC, longer with fewer cores), then the game starts. Later starts are instant.

Supported disc: Tenchu Z (USA, Europe) (En,Fr,De,Es,It), default.xex SHA-256 c727debeaad474dfcf8517202eebc388f9e51705ce3b01499486fa5ff47f9f06. The disc image is read in place; nothing is extracted.

Features

  • 60 fps by default, or 120, 144, 240 and unlimited; game speed does not change. The title screen and main menu keep their original 30 fps.
  • Resolution scaling (1440p, 4K and up), borderless fullscreen (Alt+Enter or F11), anisotropic filtering.
  • Any controller through SDL3; keyboard and mouse with rebindable keys.
  • F1 (or Back + Start) settings menu, which pauses the game: display, audio, controls, and unlocking all missions in your save.
  • Fixes for high frame rates: water ripples and waves, HUD timers, and water reflections on small pools.

Settings are in TenchuZ.ini next to the executable; saves and the compiled game code are in %APPDATA%\TenchuZRecomp. Requires 64-bit Windows 10/11 and a Direct3D 11 graphics card; the Visual C++ runtime is included.

Do not share the tenchu_game.dll built from your disc: it contains code translated from the game.
