Redline 1.8: open PDFs straight from Explorer and Finder.
Download
- Windows 10 and 11:
Redline-Windows.exe. Open it; it installs in a few seconds, no administrator password needed. If Windows says "Windows protected your PC", click More info → Run anyway (the installer isn't code-signed yet). - Mac (macOS 12 or newer):
Redline-Mac.dmgfor Apple-chip Macs,Redline-Mac-Intel.dmgfor Intel Macs. Drag Redline to Applications. The first time, if your Mac says it "could not verify" Redline, open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Open Anyway (the app isn't notarized yet).
New
- Open with ▸ Redline and double-click: Redline is listed for PDFs in Explorer and Finder (to make it the default, pick it in Open with ▸ Choose another app and tick Always). Save writes straight back into the file you opened.
- One window: PDFs you open while Redline is running come up as tabs in the window you already have; opening a file that's already open shows its tab.
- Works with files on network drives and in deep project folders (paths longer than 260 characters).
- Read-only and locked files are never overwritten: Redline says so, and Save As saves a copy.
- On a Mac, Finder tags and file permissions stay as they were after saving, and shortcuts are shown the Mac way (⌘, ⇧, ⌥).
Fixed
- Go to Page (Ctrl+Alt+G, ⌥⌘G on a Mac) found the next search result instead.
- Zooming in and out on dense sets no longer stalls.
Redline is free, with no ads and no subscription. If it saves you time, donate.
