Beta 3 — approved Betty artwork and metrics documentation
Beta 3 — v0.1.0-beta.3
Play Public Domain Cartoon Fighters · Known limitations · Feedback
The live website now uses pdcf.dev. Existing players can download their old save and settings in their original browser/profile, then import at the new address. Export leaves the original data intact. This website follow-up does not move the published Beta 3 tag.
This desktop prerelease follows Beta 2 with the approved Betty artwork and the decision to retain disclosed Cloudflare browser metrics. Combat rules, controls and saved data remain compatible.
Changes
- Betty's 48 cels use the approved rounded cheeks, smaller dark nose, large eyes, curled bob, slender hanging ears and distinct lip/eye expressions. The shared atlas updates portraits, combat and endings. The other five fighters are unchanged.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics/RUM remains intentionally enabled for browser page/performance measurements. The privacy policy, beta guide and contributor/review docs record that choice. Disabling metrics is no longer pending; no hosting change or extra game telemetry is introduced.
- The visible beta label, page titles, public guide and package version identify Beta 3. The footer separately identifies the exact build commit.
Six fighters, four stages, Arcade, Training, CPU play, local multiplayer, saved bindings and display/audio options carry forward. Fonts and their OFL notices remain locally hosted. See the review follow-up and asset provenance for sources and boundaries.
Verification and publication
Release commit: 1952046. The annotated v0.1.0-beta.3 tag identifies this exact commit; Beta 1 and Beta 2 retain their original targets.
- Candidate checks and main checks each passed all seven jobs: build, seeded balance, Chromium, Firefox, WebKit, Chrome and Edge. All 95 browser scenarios passed in each run.
- Local verification passed 97 Node tests, the 57-file/131-reference build check, syntax/diff checks and three focused packaged browser scenarios across Chromium, Firefox and WebKit.
- Separate live verification confirmed Beta 3 / build 1952046, the approved Betty atlas SHA-256, Betty/Popeye Training and pause/resume, 390px layout, all six local font files, public notices, retained Cloudflare beacon/RUM requests and no page errors or Google Fonts requests.
- The automatic Cloudflare build did not start for the Beta 3 publication push, so the checked release build was published with the existing Wrangler login. The follow-up verified successful automatic builds for a source-unchanged push (
37f7884) and a branch-to-main promotion (d0c9487), with matching live footers. Automatic deployment is working again without configuration or credential changes. The follow-up main release checks passed after one rerun of the Chromium fullscreen check; three focused local repeats also passed. The precise cause of the earlier missed trigger could not be established. See the diagnosis and delivery checks; the published Beta 3 tag remains at1952046.
The approved artwork/metrics baseline was 38ac9a5; its prior visual inspection remains separate from these Beta 3 checks. The website follows deployed main builds; compare its footer with the release tag. See the verification record for scope and historical evidence.
Known limitations and feedback
Balance is provisional. Physical controllers, speaker/headphone listening, native Safari, lower-end/high-refresh hardware and sustained human play need further verification. Automated WebKit and virtual pads do not establish those results. No new endurance run is claimed for Beta 3. Touch controls omit throw and dash; this beta targets desktop. Multiplayer is local, saves are browser/device-specific, and the Canvas game is not fully screen-reader playable or accessibility-certified.
Independent artwork/branding and privacy/compliance reviews remain open. This release is not legal clearance. Existing legal and privacy notices continue to apply.
Report the build, browser/OS, keyboard/controller, mode/difficulty, matchup/stage, reproduction steps and expected/actual behavior through GitHub Issues. Issues are public and require an account; do not post private information. The game adds no automatic feedback uploads or new player storage.
Beta 2 — character references and local fonts
Beta 2 — v0.1.0-beta.2
Play Public Domain Cartoon Fighters · Known limitations · Feedback and bugs
This desktop beta follows Beta 1. Choose among six fighters and four animated stages with original period-inspired music, then play Arcade, single CPU matches, local two-player, or Training. Existing saves, controls and combat rules remain compatible.
Changed in Beta 2
- Betty's 48 drawings now use the documented 1930 canine ears, muzzle and black button nose, with no earrings or decorative garter. Portraits and endings share the updated atlas.
- Minnie uses a simplified plain skirt. Popeye's power-up uses loose leaves, and his quote and ending replace the familiar “Strong to the finish” wording.
- The provenance record identifies examined original publications, film-copy timestamps and hashes for the six character references. These are new adaptations, not extracted frames or legal clearance.
- Barlow Condensed and DM Sans are served from this site, with their required SIL Open Font License notices. No Google Fonts import, preconnect or automatic font-provider request remains; system fonts work when downloads fail.
- Browser checks verify every required font weight, absence of Google font requests, real fallback after blocked font loads, and transparent borders for all 144 revised cels.
See the review follow-up for source distinctions and the professional review still needed. No new private contact channel or blanket repository license is introduced.
Included
- Six-bout Arcade ladders, three CPU difficulties, continues, saved checkpoints and character endings.
- Distinct CPU tactics, buffered attacks, combos, throws, dashes, specials and counter/punish feedback.
- Training with dummy options, combat readouts and eight guided lessons using saved bindings.
- Custom keyboard/controller bindings, stick dead zones, explicit P1/P2 assignments, pause and reconnect recovery.
- Saved audio/visual preferences, reduced motion, readable HUD and fullscreen support.
- Bounded asset/audio recovery, build identification, public privacy/legal notices, and a visible beta notice with feedback links.
Known limitations
Balance and difficulty are provisional. Physical controllers, speaker/headphone output, native Safari, lower-end/high-refresh machines and sustained human play need further verification. Automated WebKit and virtual-pad checks do not establish those results. Touch controls omit throw and dash; this beta targets desktop. Local multiplayer requires a shared device; online play is unavailable. Saves and preferences stay in one browser/device, with no account or cloud sync. The Canvas game is not fully screen-reader playable or accessibility-certified.
Independent artwork/branding clearance and hosting privacy-configuration reviews remain open. The beta designation does not change the existing character-version, independence or asset notices. See the legal notices, privacy policy and asset provenance.
Verification and publication
Release commit: 12ec60e. Both the candidate run and main run passed all seven jobs: build, balance and all five browser projects (95 scenarios per run). The annotated Beta 2 tag identifies that exact commit; Beta 1's published tag is unchanged. The live site follows main, so compare its build footer with the tag when identifying this release.
Local verification passed 97 Node tests, the 57-file/131-reference production build and all 57 browser checks across Chromium/Firefox/WebKit. Nine focused checks passed again against the committed build. All 144 revised cels were visually inspected in both directions through the actual animation reel.
A separate isolated Chromium visit verified the live Beta 2/build 12ec60e footer, all seven font-weight loads from six local files, zero Google Fonts requests, both required font licenses, Betty/Popeye Training punches and special inputs, pause/resume, the 390px layout and all three public information pages, with no page errors. The three revised atlases and both changed runtime files also matched the committed source hashes. These are automated browser/input checks, not human or hardware playtests.
Earlier sustained sessions covered 36 complete matches plus two minutes of Training per browser on the pre-Beta 1 source; no new Beta 2 endurance run is claimed. See the verification record for measurement limits.
Feedback
Please report the build number, browser and OS, keyboard/controller, mode and difficulty, fighters and stage, steps to reproduce, and expected/actual behavior. Screenshots or short recordings are useful when available. For playtest impressions, focus on tutorial clarity, combat readability, difficulty progression, counterplay and whether matches stay enjoyable.
GitHub Issues are public and require an account. Do not post private information. The beta's game code adds no automatic feedback uploads, gameplay analytics or new player storage.
Cloudflare metrics retained by choice: on October 18, 2026, the maintainer chose to keep Cloudflare Web Analytics/RUM enabled for browser page/performance measurements. Optional disabling is no longer pending, and no exclusion rule or expanded API permissions are required for this decision. The existing privacy policy continues to disclose the beacon separately from local game data and manual feedback. This is a documented choice to retain the existing behavior, not a claim that hosting settings changed. Independent privacy/artwork/branding reviews remain open.

Verification and publication
Publication requires the candidate's static build, balance job and all five hosted browser projects to pass. The verified commit is tagged without changing its contents; GitHub marks this release as a prerelease. The live website follows main, so compare its build footer with the tag when identifying a particular beta build.
The baseline local verification passed 97 Node tests, 57 browser checks across Chromium/Firefox/WebKit and three sustained sessions covering 36 complete matches plus two minutes of Training per browser. These are automated results, separate from human playtests. See the verification record for source revisions, hosted results, current packaging checks and measurement limits.
The live host was observed injecting a Cloudflare Web Analytics/RUM beacon for browser page/performance measurements. This hosting behavior is separate from game code and manual feedback and is disclosed in the privacy policy. Hosting settings were not changed by the beta release.
Published build verification
Release commit: 88e3bd4da7ced7ee7fcc4515a73bbfcbb4ca9444.
- All seven candidate checks and all seven main-branch checks passed before this tag was created. Each run includes build, balance and 95 browser scenarios across Chromium, Firefox, WebKit, Chrome and Edge.
- The production build passed 97 Node tests and verified 49 files with 123 local references. The exact committed candidate also passed all 57 local Chromium/Firefox/WebKit scenarios; the native fullscreen check passed nine additional focused runs.
- The deployed site serves Build
88e3bd4. An isolated Chromium smoke check verified the beta labels, feedback and limitations links, 390px layout, native audio startup status, Training combat and nested pause/resume, damage from both local keyboard players, real CPU damage, and the first Arcade bout. No page errors were captured. Audio startup is separate from speaker/headphone listening. - The earlier 36-match endurance results remain baseline evidence; they were not rerun for this documentation/presentation release. Physical controllers, native Safari, human balance/listening and independent rights/privacy-configuration reviews remain open as described above.
