BoardRipper v0.37.2
v0.37.2 — 2026-09-04
A release for the browser version and for tablets. The browser build at
ripperdoc.de/boardripper/web has been picking up users, and on an iPad it had
one bug that blocked it outright and several that made it feel unfinished. All
of the touch work applies equally to a Docker install opened on a tablet.
Browser version, on a tablet
- The file picker offered PDFs only on iPad. Safari maps each
accept
extension to a system type; none of the boardview extensions are registered
on iOS, so the Files app greyed out every board. Browsers no longer get an
acceptfilter at all — the format is detected from the file's contents
anyway. Select a board and its schematic together and both open. - Long-press opens the context menu. The quick actions behind right-click
did not exist on touch. Hold half a second on a part or pin. - Larger touch targets. The toolbar's buttons rendered 22 px tall — the
Upload button, the only way in on a tablet, included. On touch devices the
toolbar is now 60 px with 44 px buttons; mouse layouts are unchanged. - Reload brings the schematic back. A reopened session restored the board
but not a locally-opened PDF, and iPadOS discards background tabs often. PDFs
opened from the picker are now kept (up to 6 / 256 MB) and come back with the
board. - The wheel-calibration wizard no longer appears on touch devices, and "2
window mode" is hidden where a pop-out window cannot exist (touch, and the
offline single file).
Browser version, first run
- A front door: Open a board or PDF and Try a sample board at the top
of the start page. The sample is a real routed board (Tomu FPGA, KiCad,
CC-BY-SA 4.0 — see THIRD_PARTY.md). The Docker and Library sections of the
getting-started text are no longer shown in the browser build, which has
neither. - Installable, with an icon. "Add to Home Screen" on iOS gets a proper
icon instead of a page screenshot, and the install manifest carries the PNG
sizes Chrome expects. Installing also exempts the app from Safari's seven-day
storage cleanup, so settings and cached boards persist. - Updates are announced. A new version used to be applied silently on the
next load, which could also break a page that was open across the deploy.
Now the app shows "A new BoardRipper version is ready" with a Reload button,
and the swap happens when you reload.
Smaller and faster
- The main bundle is 21% smaller: the PDF watermark-cleaning library and the
glyph-overlay font parser load on first use instead of on every visit. - The PDF worker shipped twice, and the copy actually used was unminified.
Now once, minified: 2.2 MB → 1.2 MB, and the offline precache 7.0 → 5.2 MB. - The offline single file parses boards in a worker instead of on the main
thread, so a large Allegro or Altium board no longer freezes the tab. - The hosted build's Content-Security-Policy no longer allows
unsafe-eval.
Diode-only mode
- Single-pin designators (testpoints and pads, drawn directly on the pin) are
now hidden along with pin numbers and net names. Designators on part bodies
stay.
