Urban heating
In the form of shredded tyres, used tyres can be used as fuel in urban heating stations.
In the context of this application, Aliapur has been sending shredded tyres to Sweden since 2008. The German industrial giant, E.On – one of the world leaders in the energy sector – effectively runs a heating station there, the specifications of which severely limit the use of fossil fuels. As two of the four boilers in this heating station accept tyres, Aliapur delivered more than 5,000 tons of shredded tyres for testing in 2008. Two different shredding formats have been tested.
As the tests were conclusive, the Swedish heating station should be able to absorb 15,000 tons of shredded tyres from Aliapur from 2009.
