Portable bundles and installers for Windows, macOS and Linux. Elmer itself is installed separately (see the installation guide). macOS builds are unsigned: right-click > Open the first time.

Fixed since 1.1.0

A bug-fix release for #1. Thanks to @sangnguyens for testing on several platforms.

Crashes in the Settings window

  • Choosing a setting that shows or hides other settings could close the application. Examples are a user-defined electrical conductivity, a plot's coloring, and Enter in a 1D plot's y-axis expression. The form was rebuilt from inside the field that had just changed, and that field was deleted while Qt was still using it.

Parallel (MPI) runs

  • mpiexec is found next to ElmerSolver_mpi, on PATH, and in the usual MPI folders. These include Homebrew and MacPorts on macOS, /usr/lib64/openmpi/bin on Linux, and MS-MPI on Windows. An app started from the Finder or a desktop launcher does not see your shell's PATH, so these studies used to run serially without saying so.
  • When a study runs serially although you asked for several processes, the Messages window says why: a serial (-nompi) Elmer, no mpiexec, or no ElmerGrid to partition the mesh. Detect in the Elmer installation dialog also says whether parallel runs are possible.
  • On more than one process, UMFPACK solves become BiCGStab + ILU(0) and the Newton line search is off. Elmer's parallel direct solver is MUMPS only, and the line search fails under MPI. The electrochemistry tutorial cell now gives the serial current on 2 processes (Windows, MS-MPI) and on 4 (Linux, Open MPI).
  • The Linux packages no longer pass their own library folder to Elmer and mpiexec (LD_LIBRARY_PATH).

Results

  • A uniform field, such as the current density of a 1D cell, is drawn in one color with its value on the legend. Before, its round-off noise (about 1e-13) was stretched over the whole color table and showed as a gradient.
