ExtraDock 4.4.10 (Beta)

Everything in the 4.4.9 beta, plus two fixes: two copies of the same app (like Photoshop 2025 and 2026) now stay apart in your dock, and the Trash count keeps working when macOS stops answering a permission check.

πŸ†• New

  • Show at Screen Edge While Hidden β€” when a fullscreen app (Hide on Fullscreen) or a maximized window (Hide on Window Hover) has hidden your dock, rest the pointer on the dock's screen edge and the dock comes back. Move away and it hides again. Turn it on per dock in Dock properties β†’ Behavior, right under Hide on Fullscreen. It works on docks pinned to a screen edge and uses the Reveal Delay / Hide Delay settings. Off by default.
  • New App Stack with / Add to App Stack β€” right-click an app or folder in the dock to make a new App Stack with another item, or to add it to an existing App Stack. Works anytime, not only in Edit Dock mode.
  • Manage Devices… β€” Settings β†’ License now has a Manage Devices… button for license keys that opens your licenses page in Appit Services, so you can free up a Mac yourself. The same button appears when a key has reached its device limit.

✨ Improved

  • Dock menus open beside the item β€” right-click and Control-click menus now open next to the item instead of at the pointer: above a bottom dock, below a top or notch dock, and toward the screen from a side dock. They no longer cover the icon or the dock. (macOS 14.4 or later; older systems keep the menu at the pointer.)

πŸ› Fixed

  • New in this beta: Copies of the same app stay apart β€” some apps install two versions side by side under the same identity (for example Photoshop 2025 and Photoshop 2026). When both were in your dock, the running dot showed on both, and clicking the one that wasn't running just brought the other one forward. Now each dock item shows its own copy's running state, clicking a copy that isn't running opens that copy, and clicking a running copy brings that copy forward without starting a second one. While both copies run, clicking a copy with no open windows brings it forward but doesn't open a new window (macOS sends new-window requests to the copy that started first).
  • New in this beta: Trash count no longer freezes β€” on some Macs, macOS can stop answering ExtraDock's Automation permission check. The Trash widget used to wait for that answer forever, so its count stopped updating for the rest of the session. ExtraDock now waits at most a few seconds, keeps showing the last count, and tries again on the next update.
  • Settings windows no longer undo outside changes β€” widget, folder and item settings windows used to save an old copy over changes made while they were open (for example by an AI assistant through ExtraDock's AI connection). They now keep those changes. If you changed the same setting yourself, the outside change wins and a short note tells you. Cancel only undoes your own edits.

βœ… QA checklist

Quick checks for the team and beta testers. Tick each one and report anything off to support@appitstudio.com.

  • Basics: install over 4.4.9 beta (or 4.4.8), launch β†’ docks, items and settings are unchanged, license stays active, no Keychain password prompt.
  • App copies (new): with two versions of one app installed (e.g. Photoshop 2025 + 2026, or a copy of any app renamed in another folder), pin both to a dock. Open only one β†’ only its item shows the running dot. Click the other item β†’ that copy launches (two processes now, each item has its dot).
  • App copies, both running (new): click each item in turn β†’ each brings its own copy forward and never starts a third process. Quit one copy β†’ its dot goes away, the other keeps its dot.
  • Single copy unchanged (new): a normal app pinned once still launches, activates and shows its dot exactly as in 4.4.9, including after the app updates itself or moves to another folder.
  • Trash count (new): add a Trash widget, move files to the Trash and empty it a few times β†’ the count follows each time. Leave ExtraDock running 10+ minutes β†’ the count is still updating.
  • Edge peek (fullscreen): pin a dock to the bottom or right edge, turn on Hide on Fullscreen and Show at Screen Edge While Hidden, run ExtraDock in Menu bar only mode, open an app in full screen, rest the pointer on that edge β†’ the dock appears after the Reveal Delay; move away β†’ it hides after the Hide Delay.
  • Edge peek (maximized window): turn on Hide on Window Hover, maximize a window over the dock β†’ the dock fades; rest on the edge β†’ it fades back in and is clickable; move away β†’ it fades out.
  • Edge peek limits: sweep the pointer quickly across the edge β†’ no peek. Hide the dock manually β†’ the edge never brings it back. A floating dock β†’ the toggle is disabled with "Pin the dock to a screen edge to use this." Option off β†’ nothing changes from 4.4.8.
  • App Stacks: right-click an app β†’ New App Stack with β–Έ pick another app β†’ a new App Stack appears in the clicked app's place with both apps. Right-click a third app β†’ Add to App Stack β–Έ pick the stack β†’ the app moves into it.
  • Dock menus: right-click and Control-click items on a bottom, side, top and notch dock, with magnification on and off β†’ the menu opens centred beside the item, never covers the icon or bar, and its actions still work.
  • Manage Devices: Settings β†’ License with a license key β†’ Manage Devices… opens services.appitstudio.com/portal/licenses in your browser.
  • Settings vs AI assistant: with the AI connection set to Allow Changes, open a Clock widget's settings, ask the assistant to change its date style, then change "show seconds" and Save β†’ both changes stay. Open a folder's settings, have the assistant rename it, change something in the window and Cancel β†’ the rename stays.
  • Basics: Check for Updates works, no crash after 10 min of normal use.
