Consultainer 0.2.0

Consultainer is now a self-hosted app you run with Docker Compose. This release adds payments, estimates, client intake from Cal.com and Calendly, and much more.

docker compose pull && docker compose up -d

Migrations run when the app starts. Take a backup first: migrations only go forward. To stay on this version, set CONSULTAINER_VERSION=0.2.0 in .env.

Billing

• Partial payments, deposits, client credit and credit notes, with a payment history on every invoice
• Estimates and proposals that clients accept from a link and that turn into projects
• Email invoices to clients and see when they're opened, plus overdue reminders and scheduled sends
• Default payment terms and rates for the org, each client and each project; client billing cycles
• A Reports page: utilization, profit, unbilled work and receivables

Clients and intake

• Cal.com and Calendly: bookings from new people become draft clients to review; bookings from existing contacts show on their client and the calendar
• Client links can require an emailed code, and can expire
• Signed agreements from DocuSign, Documenso and Ironclad, linked to clients and projects
• Links to 1Password and Bitwarden items on clients and projects (Consultainer never stores the secret itself)

Work

• Calendar page with deadlines, deliverables, upcoming meetings and scheduled invoices, plus an ICS feed
• Log meetings from connected calendars, with project suggestions
• Tasks page across all projects, comments with @mentions and watchers, timers on task rows
• Weekly timesheet approval before time is invoiced; expense approval alerts
• Two-way Linear sync

Files

• Link documents from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive/SharePoint and Notion
• File invoices and documents into Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive automatically
• Optional S3-compatible storage for uploads

Admin and security

• Every integration is set up in Settings (environment variables still work)
• Audit log, security alerts and a weekly digest; org-wide alert routing to email and Slack
• Required two-factor sign-in for the whole org, Google two-factor sign-in, password reset, and signing out other sessions after a password change
• Import from Harvest, Toggl and Clockify; export everything as a ZIP
• Nightly database backups in the default Compose file
• REST API and MCP server for AI agents
