Development Environment Troubleshooting

ArthurFirmino edited this page Jan 12, 2018 · 2 revisions

This is a compilation of solutions to frequent issues, brought up by students, when setting up the development environment (e.g. CMake, QtCreator). If your issue is not on the list, do email your TA.

These solutions assume you have installed all the necessary requirements.

Linux and OSX

  • "QT Creator needs a CMake Tool setup to build."
- Go to Preferences, Build & Run, and select the CMake tab
- If CMake was not automatically detected, then click Add
- Name it CMake, with the path being the path to CMake
^(this is usually /usr/local/bin/cmake on OSX, but you can run "type -a cmake" to confirm)
- Restart Qt Creator
  • "No CMAKE_C_COMPILER can be found"
- Go to Projects, Build Settings and you should see a CMake settings list
- Click Add, then String
- Name the new setting CMAKE_C_COMPILER, the value is the path to gcc (or clang on OSX)
^(run "type -a gcc" or "type -a clang", to find the path value)

Windows

  • Before opening or creating a new project follow these steps:
- Open Qt Creator, under Tools click Options...
- Click "Build & Run" and go to the Kits tab
- Select the auto-detected configuration and click clone
- Select the clone configuration under Manual and click Make Default
- Having the clone selected, perform the following changes:

-- Set the C and C++ compiler to the (x86_amd64) options
-- To the right of the CMake Generator option click Change...
-- Set the Generator to "NMake Makefiles" (not "NMake Makefiles JOM")
-- Set the extra generator to CodeBlocks

- Click Apply and OK
