sumi 0.49.4
sumi 0.49.4
- Capture diagnostics report what stopped a screenshot. Alongside the category (
permission_unavailable,foreground_changed,window_minimized,window_unavailable,protected_content,window_occluded,capture_timeout,capture_unsupported,capture_api_error,blank_frame,encoding_failed,image_too_large,evidence_storage_unavailable), the Personal AI Engine panel, the chat capability facts and the native fixture report now show the platform stage that failed. Stages are fixed identifiers; no screenshots, screen text, window titles, credentials or provider payloads are logged or stored. - Windows: window-specific capture disables the system capture border and cursor where Windows allows it, crops to the client area when the frame maps onto the window, rejects frames without content and reports minimized, moved or protected windows as such. Windows 10 before version 1903 falls back to a guarded screen copy that still refuses any other application's window above the target; only sumi's own windows and hidden (cloaked) windows are exempt.
- macOS: the focused window is resolved through the front-to-back on-screen window list, so duplicate titles and titles that change during a capture no longer fail. Minimized, closed and unresolved windows are reported as their own categories instead of a foreground change.
- The 20-second interval, 120-per-hour budget, consent, exclusions, lock protection, foreground checks and encrypted evidence retention are unchanged. No saved setting or operating-system permission changes.
Goal completion still depends on sufficient observable evidence. This patch does not change goal-observation reasoning, completion criteria or task extraction from messages.
sumi 0.49.3
sumi 0.49.3
- Preserve the exact onboarding greeting “Welcome to Sumi!” with a capital S.
- Keep the sumi application, executable, installer and shortcut names, with the verified legacy installation migrations introduced in 0.49.2.
This text correction preserves existing goals, settings, API keys, signing identities and update channels. It does not change AI goal-observation logic.
sumi 0.49.2
sumi 0.49.2
- The app, executable, Dock name, installers, Windows shortcuts, update screen, browser extension and current setup documentation consistently use sumi.
- Existing macOS installations rename the legacy app bundle before opening the workspace, retaining the same signing identity, credential helper and application data. An existing destination is never overwritten.
- Windows updates retain the existing installation registry and data while migrating the executable, shortcut labels and startup registration to sumi.
- New download assets use sumi filenames. Previously published update bridges and signing trust remain unchanged.
This naming update does not change screen-observation reasoning or goal-completion criteria. macOS remains Apple Silicon only, minimum 14.5; Windows remains x64.

- Windows snapshots capture the active window's own surface even when the companion or another window overlaps it, without including the covering window's pixels.
- Connected AI service indicators use the original lime palette again; errors remain red and pending checks remain gray.
- Capture failures report specific safe diagnostic categories for permission, unsupported capture, graphics device, protected window and worker failures. Failed capture cannot leave the status at
capturing. - The 20-second observation cadence and existing consent, foreground, session and evidence-retention checks remain in place.
Windows window-specific capture requires Windows 10 version 1903 or newer. Windows may display its capture border during a snapshot. Goal completion still depends on sufficient observable evidence.
This patch does not change goal-observation reasoning, completion criteria or task extraction from messages.

- Built-in AI connects through Supabase after onboarding, with no API-key entry, invitations or access codes. Switch to Use my API keys in AI Services to keep using your own Nebius and Tavily accounts.
- Newly created goals use their creation result for follow-up scheduling and focus, keeping earlier parked goals separate. Preparatory reads can continue into an explicitly requested action; repeated reads are identified independently of their instruction wording.
- The bounded fallback model keeps reasoning enabled for dialogue/action verification and research instead of silently dropping to a shallow response.
- Service indicators check the selected connection. Provider keys stay on the server in built-in mode; uniform server limits bound shared usage.
- New profiles enable the existing AI observation tools by default. Explicit saved privacy choices remain respected, and operating-system permissions are still required.
- Improved foreground interface text collection and active-window capture, including content nested deeply in browser accessibility trees.
- Smoother Today goal dragging preserves the existing priority rules.
- Release validation reuses matching verified results and avoids duplicate native lint allocations while retaining both platform checks and signing verification.
Built-in AI requires an internet connection and available shared allowance. Goals inferred from screen activity still depend on observable evidence; new goals and steps require user agreement. Personal API keys remain an independent option.

Notice short work results sooner
- Refresh permitted active-window screenshots and goal-aware AI observation with a minimum interval of 20 seconds. Previously screenshot attempts were spaced by two minutes and observation checks by one minute.
- Refresh the shared interface-text cache after 20 seconds so matching and completion checks can use newer text from the same window.
- Existing screenshot, tracking, AI-sharing and automatic-completion choices are preserved. Screenshots still require the feature to be enabled and the applicable system access.
- The shared limit remains 120 background observation requests per rolling hour, with capacity reserved for independent result verification. Busy workers, provider latency, unchanged evidence, privacy gates and that budget can delay or skip a check; 20 seconds is not a guaranteed notification time.
- Goal completion still requires sufficient evidence, with independent verification for automatic completion and Undo. More frequent sampling does not guarantee recognition of every generated image or download.
Platforms
- Windows x64 and Apple Silicon macOS 14.5 or later, using the existing updater trust and reviewed Mac signing identity.
- Corrected observation documentation to distinguish first-launch defaults in 0.48.0 from preserved choices in existing profiles.

A calmer start with Sumi
- Get through three short welcome cards without entering API keys. Choose With tracking to notice work, time spent and finished steps, or Without tracking to check off steps yourself.
- On macOS, choosing tracking opens Accessibility settings only when access is missing. Granted access stays out of the way; Windows needs no extra permission dialog for ordinary app and time tracking.
- Start with an expanded Install and start using Sumi goal: install the app, create a goal, and explore My progress. Installation receives a fixed five-minute onboarding credit, shown once on the goal and in Progress.
- Three welcome bubbles guide each step. Cross it off marks installation and opens goal entry; Cross off & view progress marks the first goal and opens Progress; Finish setup completes the last step and returns to Today. Goal suggestions are available as you type when AI is connected.
- Later postpones a setup bubble for ten minutes, including after restart. Regular daily-planning prompts wait while setup is active.
AI defaults for new profiles
- AI assistance, goal sharing, web research, activity matching, dictated-text correction, screenshot support and verified automatic completion start enabled for new profiles. Existing saved choices are preserved.
- Without tracking keeps activity observation off. Operating-system permissions and connected provider credentials still apply. All controls remain available in Settings; keys are never included in the app bundle.
- Updated privacy and voice documentation explains the new defaults and what each feature shares. Product defaults do not create personal-memory records.
Platforms and preservation
- Windows x64 and Apple Silicon macOS 14.5+. The Mac app uses the existing internal signing identity and immutable credential helper; Apple notarization is not provided.
- Existing goals, provider connections, saved preferences and updater trust are retained. Earlier installers are not replaced. The latest MIT and bundled-font license notices are included.

Work noticed actually notices
-
Measure unlisted work per context, not per review segment. Time in the same app, title and page now adds up regardless of the daily summary's five-minute review segments, which restart every five minutes and on any gap. Previously the suggestion clock followed those segments, so a 29-minute session became dozens of sub-four-minute pieces and the three-minute threshold for a "Work noticed" card was almost never reached.
-
Let the model, not a clock, say what the card covers. When sumi asks whether sustained unlisted work deserves a goal, it shows the model the last 20 minutes of windows and the model names which of them were stages of the same work, for example a company search followed by its job posting. The card's minutes and the time moved on acceptance cover exactly the current presence in the window plus the named stages. Earlier time in the same window stays unassigned unless named, so a morning session is never relabelled by an afternoon decision. There is no visit timer.
-
Let the observation pass propose a goal for sustained unlisted work. It may now suggest a goal when two or more observations over several minutes show one subject that matches no listed goal, such as researching a company before an interview, instead of only for an explicit request addressed to you. Adding the goal still requires your acceptance.
-
Ask on new evidence, not on a timer. The 90-second matcher cooldown and the 300-second suggestion cooldown are gone: a window is asked about when its evidence is new, which the per-window answer memory and the visible-text fingerprint decide. The wait before the first ask on a new window drops from 60 to 30 seconds; nothing is lost by waiting, since the whole context is counted once the answer lands. The hourly budget for background model calls, the one remaining cost ceiling, rises from 60 to 120, since the observation pass alone could use most of the old budget and starve matching. The three-minute threshold for a "Work noticed" card, the snooze after Not now and the one decision per context per day stay: those are about attention, not cost.
Detected calls remain excluded from "Work noticed" cards. Time recorded before this release is not re-grouped.
Available for Windows x64 and Apple Silicon macOS 14.5 or later.

Personalized goal suggestions
- Today and All goals now suggest new goal titles as you type, starting with a single character and refreshing after a short pause, like step suggestions.
- Suggestions use your saved goals and steps, selected work role, and permitted personal facts and preferences. Exact saved titles keep their existing search behavior.
- Use a suggestion with a click, arrows and Enter, or Tab to put it into the field for editing. You can always add your own wording, including when AI is unavailable. Typing alone never creates a goal.
- Outdated responses are discarded as the text changes. Completion requests no longer trigger unnecessary workspace refreshes, and clicking Create uses the title shown even when another saved goal is highlighted.
Follow your computer's appearance
- Sumi follows the computer's light or dark appearance at startup and while running. Automatic mode is enabled by default for existing and new profiles.
- The sidebar theme button still provides a manual override. Re-enable automatic mode in Settings → General → Use system appearance.
- Workspace and companion windows share the appearance preference, and native window/tray icons update with the theme.
Platforms and privacy
For Windows x64 and Apple Silicon macOS 14.5 or later. Signing identities, updater verification and existing update channels are preserved.
Goal autocomplete respects AI, goal-sharing and Memory controls. It does not send screen content or raw chat history, and it does not search the web. Suggestions remain editable and can need review. The privacy policy now describes this feature's data sharing.

Voice and chat
- Dictate with an on-device Whisper model on Windows and macOS. First use downloads approximately 548 MB of verified model weights; microphone audio stays on your computer.
- Pause naturally while speaking and press Stop when finished. Dictation produces an editable draft and never sends automatically.
- Optionally enable Correct dictated text before editing in Settings → AI. Nebius then receives the transcript and permitted relevant goal titles to correct likely misheard words before the draft appears. This option is off by default; audio remains local, and Use original restores the raw transcript.
- Saved goal vocabulary and contextual interpretation help with similar-sounding goal names and add/rename requests while preserving negation, quoted wording and genuine past reports. Names and unclear wording can still need review.
- Desktop chat starts fresh when reopened after ten minutes without a message. Earlier conversations remain available in Chats.
- Chat actions on mascot cards open short editable topic drafts instead of copying the full reminder.
Progress, settings and planning
- Progress uses violet shades ranked by time spent, with darker shades for goals with more time. Each chart segment opens its goal, and stacks share a baseline.
- Period and date controls sit together at the left. Goal details use compact step indicators.
- Vision model settings use the same compact service-row design and show the resolved model, with a readable layout in narrow windows.
- Skip today dismisses planning reminders for the rest of the local day, including after restart. Not now retains its 30-minute reminder. Other mascot messages and tracking continue.
- Removed redundant review/journal panels from Today and Progress.
Platforms and privacy
Windows x64 and Apple Silicon macOS 14.5 or later use the same release. Existing update channels, signing identities and signature verification are preserved. The local speech model is downloaded separately; installers include the required third-party notices. See the updated privacy policy for voice and optional text-correction details.
Automated and synthesized-speech checks do not establish recognition accuracy for every microphone, accent or proper name. Optional real-model tests remain separate from the offline unit suite.
