Using Virtual Button Box
Once you have created a profile, you can start the main program by running Virtual Button Box.exe. A blank window will appear; all interaction is done in VR. Do not minimize the window.
Virtual Button Box uses motion detection to show and hide the overlays. When the controllers are stationary, the overlays are hidden, and when motion is detected, the overlays are shown. A white oval that indicates the controller position is shown at all times.
There are two pointer modes, Ball and Laser. In Ball mode, there is a white ball that you use to push buttons. In Laser mode, there is a green laser that you use to point at buttons from a distance. You can change between the modes in the profile select panel.
Press and hold the menu button to bring up the profile selection panel. Point at the desired profile and release the menu button to select it.
In addition to the profiles, there are two other buttons in this panel: Reset Seated Position and Toggle Laser Mode. You select these the same way you select a profile. Reset Seated Position resets the origin to your current head position (the same thing as selecting this option in the SteamVR controller menu). Toggle Laser Mode changes between Ball and Laser pointer modes.
Press the trigger to activate a button. Press and hold the trigger to operate a rotary.
Click up/down or left/right on the touchpad to activate a switch.
Press and hold the grip button while pointing at a button panel to move and rotate the panel. There is a roll snap feature to help keep the panel level.
Press the trigger to activate this button.
Press and hold the trigger, then rotate the controller clockwise or counterclockwise.
To activate the middle position, press the trigger. To activate up/down/left/right directions, click the touchpad. The direction of the arrows indicates whether you should press up/down or left/right.
Used the same way as a three-way switch, except there is no middle position.
