YouTube Proxy 0.4
- Google Play Music lives again, backed by YouTube Music (new Play Music API switch; the account token is ignored, so any signed-in account gets through). What works in it:
- Search, with real title, artist, album and square album art instead of video thumbnails.
- The Explore screen shows content instead of a connection error.
- Playback, built ahead of the tap and remuxed into a format the old player can prepare; repeat plays are instant from cache.
- Album art loads.
- Audio quality (high / normal / low) follows the proxy setting.
The YouTube apps also gained, since 0.3:
- Playlists play on: a video opened from a playlist comes with the whole queue, shown above the related videos, with tap-to-jump and the next video starting when one ends (version 12 and up).
- Autoplay the next video by itself — inside a playlist, or the first related video outside one — with the app's own Autoplay switch (version 11 and up).
- The previous/next buttons beside play appear only while a playlist is playing, as on YouTube.
- A Download button in the row under a video (version 14).
- The home feed follows what you searched for: after three searches it is built from them, the last video opened and the chart; it stays on the phone and Clear cache forgets it.
- Select in app no longer needs an Invidious instance — minting the proof-of-origin token unlocks it too — and the chosen quality is muxed from YouTube's own streams instead of falling back to 360p.
- A proof-of-origin token minted on the phone (Android 6 and up), sent with player and media requests.
- Subtitles served at
/api/timedtextand as the GData caption feed, switchable off in Settings → Watch page; fixed a startup crash on version 12. - A Community tab on channel pages (version 11 and up), posts with pictures, loaded lighter so the tab no longer crawls.
- Comments are on by default at the end of the watch page and scroll on endlessly, paged from where the last page stopped and prefetched, without the old stutter.
- One main screen plus a Settings screen (Playback, Watch page, Data, Storage), each option saying what it does.
- Less memory use and fewer crashes on old phones; Invidious links fetched in parallel with YouTube's answer for a faster start.
Install over 0.3 with adb install -r ytproxy-0.4.apk — data is kept.
