There's interest in doing another event for accessibility day this year, like we did in 2023. We can look back at improvements since the last event, do another workshop session around testing, etc. With the foundation, we can also investigate offering bounties, which is something we had ideas for last year but did not have the right setup in place.

I submitted an event for us on the accessibility day events page. No events are listed yet, they might just start to review submissions.

I think we can use the same format as last year:

  • Invite various projects to participate (in our event, or have their own event)
  • Start the day with an intro session around common accessibility issues and how to test for them, as well as how to report to projects and what to expect in that collaboration
  • Provide resources and insights into previous tests
  • Review how things have improved since our first accessibility day (and possibly consider creating bounties to incentivize work that is not getting picked up)
  • Post on social channels about accessibility to help create awareness

What else?

Our event is live now, we're the first ones on that list. This was similar last year, where we registered early, but in the end there were 230 events in total.

This is great to see!

Kicked off a planning document for the initiative here.

It keeps mostly to the same structure as last year:

Invite

  • Invite projects to join
  • Invite communities to join

Raise awareness and educate

  • Review how things have improved since our first accessibility day (and possibly consider creating bounties to incentivize work that is not getting picked up)
  • Start the day with an intro session around common accessibility issues and how to test for them, as well as how to report to projects and what to expect in that collaboration
  • Provide resources and insights into previous tests

Socials

  • Post on social channels about accessibility to help create awareness

Please feel free to comment and make suggestions on the document.

Thanks for kicking off the planning. I'd also like to bring up the topic of bounties. For example, we could ask the Bitcoin Design Foundation for 1.5M sats and give 150K sats (~$100) each to 5 designers who do thorough accessibility tests and document issues, and to 5 developers who implement them. I've personally done both of those activities, and they do take a bit of time and effort, so rewarding people could be nice to say thanks. What do you think?

  1. Will add and create an event to the community calender around the same time which we did the call last year at 7:00 UTC on 16th May. This will allow us to start sharing event with wallets and post in various communities. The 16th of May is just 2 months away so this allows for good time to get wallets onboard and share the event link with them.

  2. Bounty idea:
Love this idea to give out a bounty for the fixes from the Bitcoin Design Foundation. Will include this in the event announcement.
Would also like to ask the wallets if they are also open to giving out a bounty for accessibility fixes similar to how Zeus did last year.
