Download firmware · SHA256SUMS · Matching source

This stable release contains the newly built and physically retested final 1.0.4, published without another rebuild. File 609,677 B; identity FM-1_68010004; SHA-256 f16da6faa7607541c94ac4bfbb0bb626e95eac0956e990a75317caf5b73a411f; tag/source 7bb4efdd02499664296e96f134371c68403b22de. Earlier unpublished 1.0.4 and 1.0.8 candidates are different bytes. Documentation VERSION 1.0.5 records publication only.

Song mode and HOME

HOME bright selects the default 88-bar song: INTRO 8 → VERSE 16 → CHORUS 16 → BREAK 8 → VERSE 16 → CHORUS 16 → OUTRO 8 → END. HOME dim selects endless generation. Enabling song restarts the current seed. PLAY after END starts again; REC chooses a new seed. Mode/progress are session-only. Section stem/density changes preserve saved mixer/FX/K1–K4; live keys remain independent. In EDIT OUT, PLAY sends Start/24 PPQ Clock and completion sends Stop/note cleanup. Incoming realtime is ignored in OUT. The audio outro fade does not send MIDI volume CC automation. Minijack remains MIDI IN; no Bluetooth integration.

Screen and boot

Aligned panels with bars below text, complete PLAY triangle and current section/local bar count. Original console-inspired silent boot animation with a moving red fader and enlarged segmented cyan/pink spectrum; cyan matches 16-BIT SOUND SYSTEM. Decorative graphics, not live audio analysis; changed-only small tiles, no new framebuffer or blocking wait. GLO stays dim with physical audio enabled and bright in USB ONLY, muting speaker/headphones while retaining USB capture.

Validation

Exact final file passed 162.40 s complete-song USB Clock/audio/status measurement. Diagnostics 407/407, no timeout, maximum response 6.55 ms. Sampled music CPU 47.59% average, 72% max, worst block 4233 us; XRUN/overload/failed boots 0. Automatic END/Stop at bar 89, no remaining captured notes or idle Clock. USB audio 203.81 s PCM16/44.1 kHz; analyzed music has signal and no clipping. Owner confirmed corrected PLAY and smooth playback/END.

Native build/full desktop and final UI suites pass separately; RAMTEXT 24,508/24,576 B (68 B spare), existing 85% protection unchanged. Physical results are finite: no new external receiver, electrical jitter, long-session, packet-counter, TRS/live-key or recovery claim. Clock and arrangement changes are block/control-quantized.

Recorded limitation: an earlier short trace of the same final bytes reported an unexplained MIDI Stop after about 2.52 s; the owner denied another button press and a later read showed local END/bar 89. The short run remains failed. The complete repeat above had no additional Stop, but the earlier event's cause is not established. See the raw evidence rather than treating the repeat as proof of universal transport reliability.

Installation · Manual · Raw evidence and limits. Publication follow-up remains in PR #19; no automatic merge.

  • SHA-256: a71dae83f0a83f035a60094eee4253be6d32f3d4ac44f50d74bcdda597c95591.
  • Identity: FM-1_68001103; USB MIDI/audio name: Emerald YM FM-1.
  • Tag/source: v0.11.3 at b7c6d0f860eb294f2376476e37f6a20f54ab572b.
  • Documentation VERSION 0.11.4 records publication; it is not another device image. PR #14 remains open for owner review.

Screen and controls

Six-pixel panel gutters and matching 86x44 parameter/mixer cards. Instrument and effect bars sit below their text. GLO is dim with physical audio enabled and bright in USB ONLY, which mutes speaker/headphones while retaining stereo USB capture. Every available assigned button function has visible illumination. MASTER remains the master-mix level; the red slider follows its physical position.

EDIT dim selects USB/TRS note/effect input and USB clock following. EDIT bright selects USB keyboard/sequencer note output and internal master tempo. PLAY in OUT resets the current-seed arrangement, sends Start and 24 PPQ Clock before notes; the next PLAY sends Stop. Incoming realtime is ignored in OUT to prevent feedback. Clock is block-quantized (~5.8 ms); no idle Clock, outgoing Continue or MIDI Thru. The minijack remains input, with no Bluetooth audio/MIDI integration. The shared diagnostic/OTA mailbox dispatch race is fixed.

Exact-package physical results

211.91 seconds of music with USB MIDI Clock, stereo USB recording in USB ONLY and diagnostics passed. Status: 547 queries / 547 replies, no timeout; maximum reply latency 6.01 ms. Sampled audio CPU averaged 45.73%, maximum 72%, longest block 4189 us. XRUN/overload/failed boots: 0/0/0. Captured 11,364 Clock pulses at average 134.063 BPM; physical Start/Stop worked with no idle Clock or remaining captured notes. Windows arrival timing is not electrical jitter or proof of an external receiver's synchronization.

273.67 seconds of stereo PCM16/44.1 kHz recorded; a 180-second music window had signal and no clipped samples. The owner confirmed the panel layout, below-text instrument bar, dim/bright GLO, physical mute and final stop. These short tests do not establish long-session reliability, USB packet counters, new TRS-input validation or new update/recovery paths. The failed 0.11.0 diagnostic recording remains a failure.

Native build and full desktop suite passed separately. RAMTEXT 24,492/24,576 B (84 B spare), data+BSS 40,272/98,304 B, pool 101,888/344,064 B. Original memory and 85% protection limits remain unchanged.

Emerald YM 0.10.0 (beta)

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@CaspiusLabs CaspiusLabs released this 28 Oct 23:31

Emerald YM 0.10.0 (beta) — Caspius Labs

Exact hardware-tested firmware for M-VAVE FM-1. The .fwsc attached here is the exact file installed and tested in PR #11, published without rebuilding.

MIDI IN/OUT with EDIT

  • EDIT dim: receive notes/effect CCs over USB and the minijack.
  • EDIT bright: send physical keyboard and sequencer notes through USB MIDI OUT; the header shows USB MIDI OUT. Local synthesis continues. Incoming note/effect messages are ignored in OUT to prevent echo.
  • USB Clock (24 PPQ), Start/Continue/Stop, diagnostics and stereo 16-bit/44.1 kHz USB capture remain available in both modes. K1 returns to internal tempo. EDIT resets to IN at boot and is not saved.
  • Output channels: keyboard 1, FM bass/lead 2–3, FM chords 4–6, PSG arp/noise 7–8, drums 10 (36/38/42/46).
  • The minijack remains MIDI IN. Physical MIDI OUT needs a PC/USB host routing Emerald USB MIDI to an external interface such as UM-ONE. No Bluetooth output or outgoing Clock/transport is included.
  • GLO / USB ONLY retains physical-audio mute with USB capture active.

Physical validation

A 60-second 180 BPM run captured MIDI OUT, USB audio and status simultaneously: average sampled CPU 45.98%, maximum 72%, longest block 4,212 us, XRUN 0 / overload 0 / failed boots 0. The main session captured 2,047 Note Ons across all nine assigned channels; Stop released all captured notes. Separate tests established keyboard chords, held-key cleanup when EDIT returned to IN and USB input before/after switching. The owner confirmed correct EDIT LED/header and smooth backing. The complete stereo USB recording was 81.41 s, with no clipping in the analyzed body.

This is short-run USB validation, not a long-session or destination-synth test. TRS input was checked on earlier 0.9.0, not retested on exact 0.10.0. Old V15/Dinghy installation/recovery evidence remains specific to exact 0.4.3.

Emerald YM 0.4.0 — beta

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@CaspiusLabs CaspiusLabs released this 27 Oct 01:14

Emerald YM 0.4.0 — beta

Persistent instrument settings and a new startup screen for M-VAVE FM-1.

  • All twelve instrument levels and 36 DECAY/COLOR/ECHO amounts can survive power-off.
  • Changes save after three seconds without edits, backing playback or held live keys. SAVE pauses backing and requests a quiet save; wait for SAVED before switching off. Pending/saving/error states and the SAVE LED show progress.
  • Version number below the 16-BIT badge, taken from VERSION.
  • Original console-inspired boot screen: circular cartridge deck, vents and red power LED, drawn using the existing tile canvas.

Controls remain SELECT = instrument, PRESETS = level, FX = edited effect, ALGORITHM = amount. Tempo/seed/transpose and other performance settings are not saved. The audio DSP and 85% guard are unchanged.

Installation and data

Package: emerald-ym-0.4.0.fwsc, with the retained Felucca update loader. Identity FM-1_68000400; MIDI port Emerald YM FM-1. Check SHA256SUMS before installing. Read the manual and installation guide.

Saving uses the existing project sectors at FC000/FD000 and may replace another firmware's data there. Emerald does not import or back up other firmware's projects/presets/samples. Back up before switching. Recent edits may be lost if power is removed before SAVED. There is no guaranteed automatic rollback.

Verification

Desktop tests cover the production storage codec and A/B flash implementation, reboot restoration of every value, interrupted payload/header writes, CRC fallback, invalid/foreign/oversized records, debounce/error retry and timer wrap; audio, UI/LED and update simulations also passed. Physical audio measurements and the separate power-cycle retention check are recorded in the verification report. Do not treat simulated power loss as a completed physical power-cycle or cross-firmware update test.

The binary was built locally with the documented Windows toolchain. No GitHub build attestation is claimed. Repository remains private by owner request; no Firmware Hub submission has been sent. Remaining listing checks are in docs/FIRMWARE-HUB.md.

Combined firmware GPL-3.0-only, with component notices in LICENSING.md. Original music and graphics; independent of M-VAVE, Sega and Yamaha.

User confirmation — 2026-10-27

The owner confirmed that the requested SAVE / SAVED / complete power-off / reboot test retained the selected instrument level and effect amount, and that the version label and startup screen work. Dated confirmation. This representative check does not establish every value, interrupted-write recovery or cross-firmware transitions. The firmware binary and v0.4.0 source tag remain unchanged; the original tagged report records the earlier pending state.

Emerald YM 0.3.1 — beta

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@CaspiusLabs CaspiusLabs released this 27 Oct 00:51

Emerald YM 0.3.1 — beta

Generative 16-bit music for M-VAVE FM-1: five YM2612 FM voices, DAC percussion and Sega-style PSG, with up to three live keyboard notes over an evolving backing.

Each of twelve instruments has its own level and independent DECAY, COLOR and ECHO amounts. SELECT chooses the instrument, PRESETS adjusts its volume, FX chooses the effect and ALGORITHM sets its amount. All three effects can run together. Settings reset at power-off.

Install

Download emerald-ym-0.3.1.fwsc and verify it against SHA256SUMS. The package includes the Felucca update loader. Identity: FM-1_68000301; USB MIDI: Emerald YM FM-1.

Read installation and data compatibility and the manual. Emerald does not import other firmware's projects/presets/samples or provide their backup/restore. Back up before switching. Audio is through the device output, not USB audio.

Verification and remaining checks

  • Desktop audio/FX/UI/LED checks and update/loader/installer simulations passed.
  • Physical 0.3.1: 30 seconds continuous backing plus live notes, neutral FX, CPU MAX 65%, XRUNS 0, overload blocks 0.
  • The identical DSP in 0.3.0 passed an all-source FX scene at 68%, XRUNS 0, overload 0. A separate paused sustain run retains its failed continuity result.
  • Installation from official V15 and another custom firmware, leaving Emerald for another firmware, interrupted-write recovery, all settings and multi-hour operation are not yet verified for this release. It is not yet ready for a Firmware Hub listing. See the checklist.

This is the original tested binary from 2026-10-26; the publication commit adds English documentation without changing firmware. It was built locally with the documented Windows toolchain, not by GitHub Actions; no build attestation is claimed. Full source is browsable at this tag; upstream history and third-party notices are preserved.

Combined firmware: GPL-3.0-only. Component licenses and attribution: LICENSING.md. Original music; no Sonic game assets. Independent of M-VAVE, Sega and Yamaha.
