Draft definition for 'Entry Phone' (wordsmith suggestions welcomed): "An Interphone that is designed to facilitate some Act of Communication between an Agent located near an endpoint inside of a building and another Agent located near an endpoint outside of a building, or outside of a small collection of buildings, to facilitate the latter Agent's entry into the building, or into the Site of the small collection of buildings." I have some questions pertaining to modeling 'Door Phones', the comm systems designed to facilitate communication with would-be entrants into buildings.
Here are the relevant definitions:
Intercommunication System =def "A Communication System that is designed to enable some Act of Communication between end points within a building, small collection of buildings, or within a small area of service."
Interphone =def "An Intercommunication System that that is designed to facilitate some Act of Communication between agents by means of audio messages."
First question. Presumably it is left open here that 'Interphone' may have sibling classes covering Intercommunication Systems that enable communication by messages other than audio. Does anyone know if there are there such artifacts (e.g. systems of this kind that enable comms by written message?)
And should Door Phone (or 'Entry Phone') be a subclass of 'Interphone'?
Given how Interphone and its parent are defined, it seems that it may be. A Door Phone is designed to facilitate communication between someone outside a building** (a would-be entrant) and someone that is inside the building. But nothing in the differentia of Interphone and its parent class entail that to be an instance of Interphone x needs to be designed to facilitate communication with someone outside the building. Although, I take that the 'small service area' clause leaves this open.
On a project where we need to determine the placement of Entry Phone.
**Or to facilitate communication with someone outside a small collection of buildings at a gate, e.g. at the entrance to a private gated community. In that case, should 'Entry Phone' be defined broadly as a subtype of Interphone that includes both entry gate Interphones and Interphones installed next to building doors, and then let 'Door Phone' be a subtype of Entry Phone that is specifically designed to be installed at a door to a building?
