Is support for C++/WinRT and the DataGrid control planned?

I was wondering what it would take to generate a winmd file from the DataGrid C# code, so that it would be possible to pass it to the C++/WinRT transpiler to generate a projection for it.

It seems like it would be a lot of work since you would have to rewrite a lot of it so that it becomes a windows runtime component as far I understand. (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/winrt-components/creating-windows-runtime-components-in-csharp-and-visual-basic)

Are there any plans for that?

This would be a large breaking change and quite a bit of work. IMO, I don't think is something that could be done in the near future but I'll let @harinikmsft provide a more authoritative answer.

I am afraid we have no plans to build C++ WinRT support for DataGrid at this time.

What else does it need to support C++/WinRT besides adding "native" to the target frameworks and fixing the dependencies?

This could be a good discussion to have on the WinUI repo as well as they're all C++ based. If there's enough demand, it could be a good candidate to graduate from C# in the Toolkit to C++ in WinUI.

Could be good to reference the original UserVoice there too.

We considered this but the cost of a port is very large and does not seem to meet our bar for investment at this time. Like @michael-hawker has mentioned above, please feel free to file an issue in the WinUI repo if you would like a C++ DataGrid equivalent.
