JQuickTake - Version 1.2 Release

This release includes an important bug fix and a couple of enhancements.

NOTE: Before installing a new version of JQuickTake, please first uninstall the old version from your PC.

Bugfix

Issue #3 has been corrected. A problem was discovered in the code related to enumerating the list of serial ports provided by the JSerialComm API. The end result is that most serial ports were not being added to the Connect screen dropdown. This code has been corrected and the application is now proving the full list of configured serial ports on the Connect screen UI. Note that this issue was impacting both MacOS and Windows computers.

UI Enhancements

  1. The Connect screen now includes a 'refresh' button next to the Serial Ports dropdown. This button will refresh the list of serial ports listed in the dropdown. This can be useful in the scenario where JQuickTake is started up before plugging a usb-to-serial adapter into the PC. The adapter can be plugged in and then added to the dropdown by pressing the 'refresh' button. Previosuly, JQuickTake would need to be restarted in this scenario.
  2. UI controls on all tabs (Connect, Save, Control) now have tooltip support to provide added guidance on UI functions.

Other Enhancements

  1. JQuickTake is now using the most current version of the JSerialComm API (v2.11.0)

Release Binaries

Details are in the README, but the release binaries are:

JQuickTake-1.2.exe - Windows Installer that includes a bundled Java 17 runtime

JQuickTake-1.2.dmg - MacOS Installer that includes a bundled Java 17 runtime

app.zip/app.tar - Scripting and executables that allow JQuickTake to be run on Windows and MacOS using an existing Java runtime

Unless there is a compelling need, this is likely the final point-release of JQuickTake. My hope is to create a 2.0 version that will support the display of images read from the camera (thumbnail and full),. This effort is in-progress but there is no timeline for completion beyond 'sometime in 2025'.
