Cove v0.1.1 — a calmer, local-first new tab Cove is a free, open-source Manifest V3 new tab for Chrome, Brave, Arc, Edge, Firefox 128+, and Zen. It combines a quiet workspace, a local-first RSS newsroom, an offline article reader, and focus tools without an account, analytics, or a Cove server. ### Highlights - Four spatial stages: Bento Dashboard, Ambient Home, Focus Sanctuary, and Pure Stillness. - Cove Discover: 11 curated RSS/Atom sources plus 3 keyless public APIs, custom feeds, on-device ranking, and a 120-article offline cache. - Reader with local article extraction, story briefs, reading progress, and no paywall bypass. - Pomodoro, a declarativeNetRequest site blocker, five procedural soundscapes, and four neural-style audio modes. - Tab triage, saved sessions, notes, read later, weather, countdowns, and a command palette. - Eight local wallpapers, four self-hosted font pairings, five accents, and five interface languages. ### Measurements - 167.7 KB gzipped JavaScript + CSS, enforced by a 170 KB CI budget. - 54 unit tests and 2 integration audits passing. - Manifest V3, strict CSP, no inline script, no remote code. - Release artifacts include SHA-256 checksums and a machine-readable manifest. ### Install 1. Download cove-chrome-mv3-v0.1.1.zip or cove-firefox-mv3-v0.1.1.zip below. 2. Unzip the archive into a permanent folder. 3. Chrome/Brave/Arc/Edge: open the extensions page, enable Developer mode, and choose Load unpacked. 4. Firefox 128+/Zen: open about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox and choose Load Temporary Add-on. 5. Verify downloads against SHA256SUMS.txt or release-manifest.json. Cove is not on the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons yet. Do not trust a store listing claiming to be Cove. ### Privacy and limitations Cove has no account, no analytics, no telemetry, and no Cove server. It is local-first, not network-silent: RSS, weather, favicons, search suggestions, read-later metadata, and article extraction make requests to the destinations documented in the network ledger. Unsplash wallpapers are opt-in. Known limits: no multi-device sync, no paywall bypass, no formal accessibility audit, and some publisher pages cannot be extracted. Read the privacy ledger and honest limitations.
