Release list
Beholder 0.5.8
- Clicked routes walk again when a connected controller or other joystick-class device has a stick that does not rest at center. A held button or a stuck key still pauses the walk, as in the game itself.
- Closing the key table, the review layer, the POI list, or the combat list with Escape, Space, or a number no longer leaks that press to the game on displays above 60 Hz.
- Every timing window in the mod now runs on the game's own clock, so passive awareness, the combat narration windows, and stepping through selector grids behave the same at 60, 144, and 240 Hz.
- The overland passive-awareness sweep costs a small fraction of what it did and no longer drops frames while walking.
- The log carries a frame-budget line every ten seconds, so a report can show whether the mod dropped frames.
Install as before: extract into the SKALD game folder, merging folders if asked. You'll hear "Beholder 0.5.8 loaded."
Beholder 0.5.7
- Every arrow press registers in menus, the level-up feat tree, character creation, and popups, at any frame rate.
Install as before: extract into the SKALD game folder, merging folders if asked. You'll hear "Beholder 0.5.7 loaded."
Beholder 0.5.6
Fixes from player reports:
- Arrow presses that moved nothing. In menus, character creation, and popups the cursor was following the mouse pointer's hover, which any pointer nudge or alt-tab could lose, so a press sometimes did nothing. The cursor now moves by its own index; the mouse follows it, never the other way round.
- Attribute editor spoke every row twice, and a quick second press could replay the previous row after the new one. Both fixed: each row speaks once, and a new press cancels anything still pending from the last one.
- Plus and minus now speak only the change ("Intellect 3. 3 attribute points remaining."). Use Up/Down, Page Up/Down, Home, and End to read the description.
- Feat rank presses likewise speak the rank, the unlock, and the remaining ranks, without re-reading the feat description.
Under diagnosis: a loot popup that interleaves "Selected: " between item landings. If you hit it, set LogLevels = All under [Logging.Disk] in BepInEx/config/BepInEx.cfg and send BepInEx/LogOutput.log.
Install as before: extract into the SKALD game folder, merging folders if asked. You'll hear "Beholder 0.5.6 loaded."
Beholder 0.5.5
New in this release:
- Reachability: overland tile browsing now says "out of reach" on tiles you can't currently walk to.
- Path readout: V speaks the walking course from the party to the browsed tile — "North 4, east 2, arrive." Works from the POI list as well.
- Combat movement narration: your own WASD steps are spoken as you take them, and a clicked movement course reports where the walk stopped. The placement phase before a fight announces selecting, placing, and swapping characters.
- Combat speech rework: actions that previously spoke twice or three times (combat log, character bark, and status strip all reporting the same event) now merge into one line.
Fixes from player reports:
- Tutorial popup titles are now read.
- List positions count the full list, not the visible page (the class picker no longer says "10 of 20").
- Dialogue story text is no longer counted as a one-item list.
- In the attribute editor, pressing Left/Right for minus/plus no longer jumps to a different row, and each row announces itself on landing.
The F1 key tables include the new keys.
Install as before: extract into the SKALD game folder, merging folders if asked. You'll hear "Beholder 0.5.5 loaded."
Beholder 0.5.1
Small spatial-clarity fix from day-one feedback: overland tile readouts now lead with the passability designation again — "Blocked, birch trees" / "Open, cobbles" — with the terrain name following, instead of the name alone. Water tiles keep their bare name (Ocean, Surf), since a ship can enter tiles that count as blocked on foot.
Install as before: extract into the SKALD game folder, merging folders if asked. You'll hear "Beholder 0.5.1 loaded."
Beholder 0.5.0
First public release of Beholder, the screen-reader accessibility mod for SKALD: Against the Black Priory.
Extract the zip into the SKALD game folder (the one containing SKALD Against the Black Priory.exe), merging folders if asked, and launch — you'll hear "Beholder 0.5.0 loaded." Start NVDA or JAWS before the game; with no reader running the mod speaks through Windows SAPI. The zip bundles the BepInEx 5 loader and the speech DLLs; the mod itself contains no game assets or content.
See the README for the full keymap, how the mod works, what's tested and what isn't, and the roadmap.
