MultiVolume 1.1.1

@EcossAIah EcossAIah released this 26 Oct 21:38

Fixed

  • The menu panel now shrinks back to fit its content after the permission
    warning goes away, instead of leaving an empty strip of window.
  • No focus ring on the mute button when the panel opens.
  • Devices that hide themselves from the Sound menu, such as Zoom's
    ZoomAudioDevice, no longer appear in the output list.

Removed

  • ⇧⌥ fine volume steps. They did not work reliably.
  • The "Media keys active" note in the menu. The media keys section now only
    appears when a permission is missing.

Added

  • brew uninstall --zap --cask multivolume also removes the settings file,
    and the README explains how to remove the privacy permission entries.

Added

  • On-screen volume indicator when the volume keys change an aggregate
    device, since the system indicator does not appear for keys this app
    handles.
  • Homebrew cask: install with brew install --cask multivolume, update with
    brew upgrade --cask multivolume.
  • make-signing-cert.sh and release.sh for signed builds and one-command
    releases.

Changed

  • Releases are signed with a fixed self-signed certificate instead of
    ad-hoc, so macOS keeps the Accessibility and Input Monitoring grants across
    updates. Updating from 1.0.0 needs those grants once more; after that they
    persist. The app is still not notarized.

MultiVolume 1.0.0

@EcossAIah EcossAIah released this 25 Oct 18:16

First release of MultiVolume, a menu bar volume control for macOS aggregate and multi-output audio devices. It sets volume and mute on each active sub-device, and handles the volume keys while an aggregate device is the default output.

Requires macOS 14 or later. Universal binary (arm64 + x86_64).

Install

  1. Download MultiVolume-1.0.0.zip below.
  2. Unzip it and drag MultiVolume.app to /Applications.
  3. Open it. A speaker icon appears in the menu bar.

The app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized, so Gatekeeper blocks the first launch. On macOS 15 and later, try to open it once, then go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. Or build from source.

The volume keys need the Accessibility permission (and Input Monitoring on some macOS versions). Everything else works with no permissions.
