STEMEKI 1.7.2

@Ekidio Ekidio released this 15 Oct 16:04
  • EDIT (4 STEMS): drag a piece up or down onto another lane. It keeps its own sound there (a drum fill on the vocal lane plays drums), labelled with where it came from, and every export follows.
  • Select over several lanes at once: drag down or up across the lanes, in EDIT and EXPORT. A click into the selection cuts every lane it covers.

  • Import videos too: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and more (also Opus, WMA). STEMEKI takes the audio out and splits it like any song. MP4 and MOV need nothing extra; the rest use the Mac's ffmpeg if there is one, otherwise a decoder (PyAV, about 50 MB) is added to STEMEKI's engine the first time it is needed.

  • Exports you can see: a ring opens in the middle of the window while the files are written, the four stems pulsing in it; when they are saved, the files fly out in their colours, a tick draws itself with the number of files, and it all fades away.
  • With 1.6.9: DJ STEMS (.stem.mp4) in EXPORT…, for Traktor, Mixxx and other Stems-aware DJ software.

  • New in EXPORT…: DJ STEMS. One Native Instruments Stems file (.stem.mp4) for DJ software and players that open Stems (Traktor, Mixxx…): the full mix plus drums, bass, instruments and vocals, with the title, artist, tempo and cover. The song as you edited it, at its own tempo. Any music player plays it as a normal song.

  • EDIT: hold ⌘ and drag a piece to move it freely, to the sample. The frame lands on the nearest sixteenth and the audio slides inside it, so the sound sits exactly where you put it while cuts and loops stay on the grid.
  • The arrows fine-tune the selected pieces: ← → 1 sample, ⌥ 1 ms, ⇧ 10 ms; the toolbar shows the slide and 0 puts the audio back on the grid.

  • CUE on the hit: when a strong drum hit falls on the 1, the CUE sits exactly on it (only the beats either side bend, the rest of the grid stays straight).
  • Loops and files that start just before a hit: the first hit is found exactly, so the CUE lands on it.

  • Header: the EDIT/EXPORT switch never covers the song info any more (it moves to the right when the window is narrow).
  • Re-analyze puts the grid and the CUE back where the first analysis set them (a moved CUE and a nudge go back); regions, cuts and the loop stay on the same music.

Export, explained.

  • New EXPORT… button: all four exports side by side (Full track length, From CUE to the end, Loop, Regions), each with a little picture of what goes into the file, its tempo, whether edits are in, and an example file name.
  • LOOP exports only when a loop is set and switched on, just like REGIONS needs regions; the window says why when it is greyed out.
  • SEL. MIX is gone from the screen: every lane exports to its own file.

Exports right on time.

  • Loop and region exports keep every hit exactly in place again: the stretch to a whole BPM works with short grains and a narrow search (hits within ~2 ms of the grid; 1.6.3's longer grains let them drift up to 28 ms).
  • The beat grid now corrects the beat model's steady offset before snapping each beat to its attack, so the markers sit on the real hits (on the test song a constant 10 ms offset went to under 1 ms).

Cleaner loop exports.

  • The stretch that puts loops on a whole BPM now works with 93 ms grains instead of 23 ms. Drum hits, bass notes and chords stay whole: exported loops sound like the song in the app, only on the grid (measured on a drum loop: blocks that differ from the original went from 9% to 1%).
