Meterkat companion 1.3.0
Several computers on one phone: each Claude and Codex reading now carries an account fingerprint (a truncated SHA-256 of provider, account ID and e-mail, computed locally; ID and e-mail never leave the computer) and the snapshot carries the computer's name (AI_USAGE_NAME, otherwise the short host name). A phone paired with several computers uses them to show one subscription once and to label different subscriptions; both fields live only inside the encrypted snapshot. A failing account read never loses the quota. Desktop island: the resting mark blinks now and then.
Single-file Meterkat companion 1.3.0 for Windows and Linux (no separate Node.js needed).
- Windows: run
meterkat-companion-1.3.0-windows-x64.exe setupfrom a terminal. The build is not code-signed: in SmartScreen choose More info → Run anyway. - Linux:
tar -xzf meterkat-companion-1.3.0-linux-<arch>.tar.gz && ./meterkat setup. - Desktop app with a window and tray icon (optional, instead of the command line):
meterkat-desktop-1.3.0-windows-x64-setup.exe(per-user install, no admin) ormeterkat-desktop-1.3.0-linux-x64.AppImage. It updates itself from these releases after the same signature check.
Installed companions update themselves after checking the Ed25519 signature on SHA256SUMS. To verify by hand: sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing; the signature check is described in docs/installation.md. Build provenance: gh attestation verify <file> -R Fade97/meterkat-companion.
The companion is open source under the MIT licence (meterkat licenses). The hosted relay is a separate free service under its terms of use.
Meterkat companion 1.2.1
Fix (desktop island, Windows): the island still covered the tray menu of Claude and other Electron apps in 1.2.0. An Electron tray menu is itself the window in front, so the island took it for the AI app. The island now recognises these menus and steps aside while one is open, and comes back once it closes.
Single-file Meterkat companion 1.2.1 for Windows and Linux (no separate Node.js needed).
- Windows: run
meterkat-companion-1.2.1-windows-x64.exe setupfrom a terminal. The build is not code-signed: in SmartScreen choose More info → Run anyway. - Linux:
tar -xzf meterkat-companion-1.2.1-linux-<arch>.tar.gz && ./meterkat setup. - Desktop app with a window and tray icon (optional, instead of the command line):
meterkat-desktop-1.2.1-windows-x64-setup.exe(per-user install, no admin) ormeterkat-desktop-1.2.1-linux-x64.AppImage.
Meterkat companion 1.2.0
Everything from the 1.2.0 betas, plus one fix. Desktop island (new): while Claude, Codex, ChatGPT or T3 Code is in front, a small Meterkat drop hangs from the top edge of the screen and opens into a short notice when usage jumps and before and after a quota reset. Click it to see every provider at once. Under Settings → Island sits at it can hang from the AI window instead and follow it as it moves. It steps aside for full-screen apps and, new since 1.2.0-beta.8, for tray and context menus on Windows (it used to cover the menu of Claude's tray icon). Turn it off under Settings → Show the island or in the tray menu; off on Wayland. Desktop self-update: the AppImage (Linux x64) and the Windows installer update themselves with the same signed checks as the CLI; Install updates automatically controls it. Update channel: Stable or Beta under Settings → Update channel or with meterkat update channel stable|beta. Desktop: Settings → Coloured bars show switches between used and remaining, bars use the provider colours from the Android app with glyphs next to the names, and providers never set up on this computer show as one line "Not set up".
Single-file Meterkat companion 1.2.0 for Windows and Linux (no separate Node.js needed).
- Windows: run
meterkat-companion-1.2.0-windows-x64.exe setupfrom a terminal. The build is not code-signed: in SmartScreen choose More info → Run anyway. - Linux:
tar -xzf meterkat-companion-1.2.0-linux-<arch>.tar.gz && ./meterkat setup. - Desktop app with a window and tray icon (optional, instead of the command line):
meterkat-desktop-1.2.0-windows-x64-setup.exe(per-user install, no admin) ormeterkat-desktop-1.2.0-linux-x64.AppImage.

Meterkat companion 1.2.0-beta.8
Beta. Installations on the Beta channel update to it by themselves; older ones opt in with meterkat update --prerelease or download it below. Desktop island (Windows): clicking the drop opens the panel again. While Claude, Codex or a terminal was in front, Windows dropped the press on the island and the panel never opened. The island now reacts when you release the button. Everything from 1.2.0-beta.7 is included.
Single-file Meterkat companion 1.2.0-beta.8 for Windows and Linux (no separate Node.js needed).
- Windows: run
meterkat-companion-1.2.0-beta.8-windows-x64.exe setupfrom a terminal. The build is not code-signed: in SmartScreen choose More info → Run anyway. - Linux:
tar -xzf meterkat-companion-1.2.0-beta.8-linux-<arch>.tar.gz && ./meterkat setup. - Desktop app with a window and tray icon (optional, instead of the command line):
meterkat-desktop-1.2.0-beta.8-windows-x64-setup.exe(per-user install, no admin) ormeterkat-desktop-1.2.0-beta.8-linux-x64.AppImage.

Meterkat companion 1.2.0-beta.7
Beta. Installations on the Beta channel update to it by themselves; older ones opt in with meterkat update --prerelease or download it below. Desktop island (Windows): dragging the pinned AI window is smooth again. In 1.2.0-beta.6 the island followed every frame of a drag, which made dragging the window itself stutter. Now the drop retracts while you drag or resize the window and drops back in where it lands; snapping, maximizing and keyboard moves still follow right away. Everything from 1.2.0-beta.6 is included.
Single-file Meterkat companion 1.2.0-beta.7 for Windows and Linux (no separate Node.js needed).
- Windows: run
meterkat-companion-1.2.0-beta.7-windows-x64.exe setupfrom a terminal. The build is not code-signed: in SmartScreen choose More info → Run anyway. - Linux:
tar -xzf meterkat-companion-1.2.0-beta.7-linux-<arch>.tar.gz && ./meterkat setup. - Desktop app with a window and tray icon (optional, instead of the command line):
meterkat-desktop-1.2.0-beta.7-windows-x64-setup.exe(per-user install, no admin) ormeterkat-desktop-1.2.0-beta.7-linux-x64.AppImage. It updates itself from these releases after the same signature check.

Meterkat companion 1.2.0-beta.6
Beta. Installations on the Beta channel (1.2.0-beta.5) update to it by themselves; older ones opt in with meterkat update --prerelease or download it below. Desktop island: follows the pinned AI window instantly. With Settings → Island sits at → AI window, the system now reports when the window moves, so the drop keeps up within a few milliseconds while you drag (it used to lag by up to a second). Switching back to an AI window shows the island right away, too. Windows uses WinEvent hooks and Linux (X11) an own X connection; the hooks add no measurable CPU. Everything from 1.2.0-beta.5 is included.
Single-file Meterkat companion 1.2.0-beta.6 for Windows and Linux (no separate Node.js needed).
- Windows: run
meterkat-companion-1.2.0-beta.6-windows-x64.exe setupfrom a terminal. The build is not code-signed: in SmartScreen choose More info → Run anyway. - Linux:
tar -xzf meterkat-companion-1.2.0-beta.6-linux-<arch>.tar.gz && ./meterkat setup. - Desktop app with a window and tray icon (optional, instead of the command line):
meterkat-desktop-1.2.0-beta.6-windows-x64-setup.exe(per-user install, no admin) ormeterkat-desktop-1.2.0-beta.6-linux-x64.AppImage. It updates itself from these releases after the same signature check.

Meterkat companion 1.2.0-beta.5
Beta. Companions on 1.2.0-beta.4 or older don't update to it on their own; opt in with meterkat update --prerelease or download it below. Update channel: Stable or Beta. Under Settings → Update channel in the desktop app, or with meterkat update channel stable|beta, choose whether updates include betas. A beta installation stays on Beta, so from this version on it picks up the next beta by itself. Back on Stable, Meterkat keeps the installed beta until a newer release. Everything from 1.2.0-beta.4 is included.
Single-file Meterkat companion 1.2.0-beta.5 for Windows and Linux (no separate Node.js needed).
- Windows: run
meterkat-companion-1.2.0-beta.5-windows-x64.exe setupfrom a terminal. The build is not code-signed: in SmartScreen choose More info → Run anyway. - Linux:
tar -xzf meterkat-companion-1.2.0-beta.5-linux-<arch>.tar.gz && ./meterkat setup. - Desktop app with a window and tray icon (optional, instead of the command line):
meterkat-desktop-1.2.0-beta.5-windows-x64-setup.exe(per-user install, no admin) ormeterkat-desktop-1.2.0-beta.5-linux-x64.AppImage. It updates itself from these releases after the same signature check.

Meterkat companion 1.2.0-beta.4
Beta. Installed companions don't update to it on their own; opt in with meterkat update --prerelease or download it below. Desktop island: pin it to the AI window. Under Settings → Island sits at (or Pin island to the AI window in the tray menu), choose AI window. The drop then hangs from the top edge of the Claude, Codex or T3 Code window in front instead of the screen edge, and moves with the window. Top of screen stays the default. Everything from 1.2.0-beta.3 is included.
Single-file Meterkat companion 1.2.0-beta.4 for Windows and Linux (no separate Node.js needed).
- Windows: run
meterkat-companion-1.2.0-beta.4-windows-x64.exe setupfrom a terminal. The build is not code-signed: in SmartScreen choose More info → Run anyway. - Linux:
tar -xzf meterkat-companion-1.2.0-beta.4-linux-<arch>.tar.gz && ./meterkat setup. - Desktop app with a window and tray icon (optional, instead of the command line):
meterkat-desktop-1.2.0-beta.4-windows-x64-setup.exe(per-user install, no admin) ormeterkat-desktop-1.2.0-beta.4-linux-x64.AppImage. It updates itself from these releases after the same signature check.

Meterkat companion 1.1.1
Fix (Windows): with Codex installed via npm, the desktop app opened a console window on every sync. The companion now starts Codex's native codex.exe directly and falls back to codex.js only when the native binary is missing.
Single-file Meterkat companion 1.1.1 for Windows and Linux (no separate Node.js needed).
- Windows: run
meterkat-companion-1.1.1-windows-x64.exe setupfrom a terminal. The build is not code-signed: in SmartScreen choose More info → Run anyway. - Linux:
tar -xzf meterkat-companion-1.1.1-linux-<arch>.tar.gz && ./meterkat setup. - Desktop app with a window and tray icon (optional, instead of the command line):
meterkat-desktop-1.1.1-windows-x64-setup.exe(per-user install, no admin) ormeterkat-desktop-1.1.1-linux-x64.AppImage. It checks for new versions; install them by downloading the new build.
Installed companions update themselves after checking the Ed25519 signature on SHA256SUMS. To verify by hand: sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing; the signature check is described in docs/installation.md. Build provenance: gh attestation verify <file> -R Fade97/meterkat-companion.

Meterkat companion 1.1.0
Desktop app (new, optional): meterkat-desktop-1.1.0-windows-x64-setup.exe (per-user install, no admin needed) or meterkat-desktop-1.1.0-linux-x64.AppImage is an alternative to the command line. It has a setup wizard and an overview of quota and reset times per provider. It also pairs phones with a QR code, and its settings cover start at sign-in, the update check and the relay. Closing the window collapses it into the tray, and the tray menu shows quota per provider. If a CLI service already syncs the same state directory, the app only displays its data. Let the app sync instead hands syncing over to the app. The app checks for new versions; download the new build to update. Fix (Windows): the packaged meterkat.exe could not start Codex installed with npm ("Codex runtime exited before quota response"). It now runs codex.js with node.exe from PATH. Without Node on PATH, set AI_USAGE_CODEX_BIN to a native codex.exe. Fix: Claude Code sometimes reports no quota limits for a signed-in account, and setup then blamed sign-in. The companion now asks Claude a second time, and the setup message no longer points to sign-in first.
Single-file Meterkat companion 1.1.0 for Windows and Linux (no separate Node.js needed).
- Windows: run
meterkat-companion-1.1.0-windows-x64.exe setupfrom a terminal. The build is not code-signed: in SmartScreen choose More info → Run anyway. - Linux:
tar -xzf meterkat-companion-1.1.0-linux-<arch>.tar.gz && ./meterkat setup. - Desktop app with a window and tray icon (optional, instead of the command line):
meterkat-desktop-1.1.0-windows-x64-setup.exe(per-user install, no admin) ormeterkat-desktop-1.1.0-linux-x64.AppImage. It checks for new versions; install them by downloading the new build.
