@FifiLeih FifiLeih released this 11 Aug 21:52

FoldCode 1.0.0 is the first public release of the native, offline-capable Android IDE.

Highlights

  • Responsive editor and terminal for phones, foldables, tablets, external displays, and Samsung DeX
  • Local C/C++, Python, Rust, Fortran, COBOL, and Web development
  • Integrated completion, diagnostics, debugging, Git, project templates, and WebView preview
  • Raspberry Pi Pico SDK 2.3.0 workflows for RP2040 and RP2350, including C/C++, Rust, MicroPython, incremental builds, UF2 generation, and USB flashing
  • Locally installed extension packages with no extension marketplace or distribution server
  • Project-local Python packages and curated Android ARM64 wheels for cryptography, cffi, and pycparser

Refreshed release

  • Stabilized Vite hot reload and automatic preview recovery during local server restarts
  • Fixed WebView READY status and browser-console capture in unfolded and Samsung DeX layouts
  • Added a grouped screenshot gallery showing C++, Rust, Python, Web, and Raspberry Pi Pico projects across folded, unfolded, and DeX layouts

Requirements

  • Android 8.0 (API 26) or newer
  • ARM64 (arm64-v8a) device
  • Sufficient free storage for selected extensions and build caches
  • All files access for the Internal storage/FoldCode/Projects workspace
  • USB host/OTG support only for Pico USB flashing

Installation

  1. Download FoldCode-1.0.0-arm64-v8a.apk, SHA256SUMS, and the .fcex packages you need.
  2. Verify downloads using SHA256SUMS.
  3. Install the signed APK and grant the requested storage access.
  4. In FoldCode, open Extensions, choose an extension, select From file, and open its .fcex package.

Android exposes All files access under Special access, so the ordinary App info permissions page may still say “No permissions required.”

Release assets

The release includes the signed APK; C/C++, Python, Rust, Web Development, Raspberry Pi Pico, GNU Arm Embedded, and Fortran/COBOL extension packages; a reviewed ARM64 base-runtime bundle for reproducible source builds; and SHA256SUMS covering every uploaded asset.

Verification

The release passed repository hygiene and legal checks, debug/release lint and APK builds, 250 of 252 JVM core tests, APK inspection, dependency verification, npm advisory checks with zero vulnerabilities, extension validation, and manual testing on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. The two unexecuted JVM cases are optional host-side Pico integration variants that require external SDK/tool paths.

See the repository README for detailed installation, privacy, permissions, extension, Pico, source-build documentation, and the full screenshot gallery.
