4.0.3 – Sidebar, Ctrl+Tab and button spacing

Half of this one is @snkiz's work on the sidebar with expand on hover, a layout I don't use myself, so I'm glad someone who does went through it this carefully. Thank you, Corey! The other half is the button spacing from the 4.1 thread, where several of you had been tuning the same two values by eye.

Fixed

  • With the sidebar set to expand on hover, an open panel like History now sits beside the collapsed launcher again instead of sliding under it. This works with the sidebar on either side and with browser.nova.enabled on or off. Only older sidebars such as the one in ESR 153 were affected. (found in #82, fixed in #84 by @snkiz)
  • The expand-on-hover launcher no longer shows Nova's violet and orange gradient. FoxOne only covered one of its two colours, and Firefox 160 renamed both, so the whole gradient came back. (#81, #83 by @snkiz)
  • Cycling through tabs quickly with Ctrl+Tab no longer flashes the selected-tab gradient, or the accent outline in private windows, on the tab you're leaving. (#80, reported by @nickj2014)
  • Under a light Firefox theme, the text on primary buttons, such as the main button in the bookmark panel, is readable again instead of white on your accent colour. (#77, reported by @atrehhoff)

Changed

  • The spacing around the pinned puzzle button is even now. --uc-hamburger-width goes from 44px to 36px and --uc-extensions-button-width from 36px to 38px. Both come from measuring the actual button widths: the old defaults left about 8px too much before the puzzle and 2px too little between the puzzle and the hamburger. (#73, thanks to @NeroWolfe75 and @snkiz for the comparisons)

Notes

  • Only userChrome.css changed. userContent.css just carries the new version number, so there's no need to copy it again.
  • If you carry your settings over between updates or set them through an import, you keep the old 44px and 36px and won't see the new spacing. Remove the two lines or set them to 36px and 38px.
  • With --uc-extensions-button-right: 0, the space before the hamburger is about 4px tighter than before.
  • 4.1 will be a cleanup round that removes or merges some options. If you have any of them set to something other than the default, please say so in #73 before November 8.
  • Every option is explained in the customisation guide.
  • Tested on Firefox 159 on Windows with browser.nova.enabled set to true. The sidebar panel fix was tested by @snkiz on ESR 153 with Nova on and off, and checked for no change on Nightly.
