🛑 Emergency Shutdown & Backup System (Major Upgrade)

🚨 Emergency Shutdown (ESC Key Triggered)

  • Introduced a powerful emergency termination mechanism that allows users to instantly shut down the monitoring process by pressing the ESC key.
  • On activation, the system performs multiple critical actions in sequence:
    • Final keylog flush: Immediately writes any buffered keystrokes to file.
    • Screenshot capture: Takes a snapshot of the current screen.
    • Clipboard capture: Retrieves and logs the most recent clipboard contents.
    • Timestamped session closure: Logs total session time and marks shutdown as "EMERGENCY".
    • Terminates all active threads (like the hourly scheduler) safely to prevent lingering background processes.

📧 Emergency Email Dispatch System

  • Sends an urgent email containing all collected logs (keylog, system info, clipboard, screenshot) as attachments.
  • Designed to work even under unstable network conditions with reduced timeout and retry logic.
  • Prioritizes Gmail SMTP with fallback to Outlook/Yahoo.
  • Ensures email only sends once by tracking _email_sent state to avoid duplicates.

💾 Robust Local Backup System

  • Even if internet/email fails, the program now creates timestamped backups of all data in a backups/ folder.
  • Ensures data safety and post-mortem availability.
  • Includes detailed error logging and backup status reporting to console.

🧹 Cleanup Enhancements

  • A new cleanup_on_exit function ensures that even normal shutdowns (e.g., Ctrl+C or process kill) will trigger final email report and backup.
  • Reduces data loss risk during unplanned shutdowns.

✅ Final Result:
This version ensures that no monitoring session ends without data being saved or sent — making the system significantly more reliable, resilient, and secure.

⏰ Hourly Automated Email Reports:

  • Sends hourly emails with full data snapshot (keylog, screenshot, etc.).
  • Subject line includes session time (e.g., "2h 15m Active").
  • Timer-based thread ensures hourly consistency.

🔧 Enhancements:

  • Clipboard and screenshot captured fresh with every report.
  • Continues sending even if partial data is available.
  • Integrated session awareness and fallback in case of failure.

🛡️ Reliability:

  • Hourly timer auto-cancels on shutdown.
  • Prevents double-reporting or skipped sessions.
  • Clean and efficient scheduling.

🔖 Release v3.0 – Email Reporting Integration

  • Release Date: 2025-06-28

✉️ Major Feature: Email Reporting

  • Automated Email Reports
  • Introduced a robust email reporting system that automatically sends collected data (keylogs, clipboard, system info, and screenshots) to a configured address.

Emergency Email Dispatch

  • On emergency shutdown (via ESC key), the system now sends an immediate report email with all current monitoring files as attachments.

Multiple SMTP Provider Support

  • Added fallback mechanisms for Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo SMTP servers to increase reliability of report delivery.

🔧 Enhancements Attachment Management

  • Each report includes the relevant monitoring files with descriptive filenames (e.g., final_keylog.txt, hourly_clipboard.txt).

Session Duration Tracking

  • Emails include a human-readable duration of the monitoring session to give better context to reports.

Error Handling for Network Failures

  • If email fails to send, logs are saved locally in email_backup.txt with all email contents and intended attachments listed.

🐞 Fixes

  • Fixed issues with email timeouts and partial sends

  • Resolved potential crashes when clipboard or screenshot features failed

  • Improved cleanup handling and log integrity during shutdown sequences

🧠 System Information Enhancements

  • Improved session tracking and geolocation retrieval. Now includes:

  • Public & local IP addresses

  • Processor and OS details

  • Logged-in user

  • Session duration

🐛 Bug Fixes & Improvements

  • Fixed multiple minor crashes caused by missing dependencies (e.g. PIL, requests, pywin32).

  • Gracefully handles clipboard or screenshot errors by generating fallback logs.

  • More stable email fallback routing across multiple SMTP servers.

  • Minor corrections in modifier key detection logic (Ctrl, Alt, Shift).
