macOS users — read this first
The macOS build is ad-hoc signed, not signed with an Apple Developer
ID. After downloading the .dmg in any browser, macOS will refuse to
open the app and show a misleading message:
"WebZen" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash.
The app is not damaged. macOS is rejecting it because the file has a
com.apple.quarantine extended attribute (set automatically by browsers
on download) and Gatekeeper requires a paid Apple Developer ID
signature to whitelist downloads from the internet.
To unblock it, run this in Terminal after dragging WebZen.app to
/Applications/:
xattr -cr /Applications/WebZen.appThen double-click WebZen normally — the warning will not return.
Intel Macs get a different (less alarming) message and can use
right-click → Open → Open to bypass; on Apple Silicon, xattr -cr
is the only path. Linux and Windows downloads are unaffected.
