v0.1.6 - Native VR Alpha

@github-actions github-actions released this 22 Oct 19:07
1957e28

This release fixes the missing nearby floor and world shakiness during head movement, and carries the VR performance improvements into the normal Windows build.

  • Stable world and nearby floor: precise per-eye poses and projective near-plane clipping preserve geometry close to the player. Accepted on Quest 3 / Virtual Desktop VDXR.
  • No overload black-frame shedding by default: demanding scenes continue submitting complete eye pairs instead of alternating with empty submissions.
  • Faster production build: heavyweight debug instrumentation is disabled. Matched headless slot-2 controls measured 23–27% higher guest throughput than the diagnostic build.
  • Retains stereo checkpoint reuse, paired native-HUD capture, tracked weapons, hand-anchored HUD, spectator mirror, barrel laser and the existing controls.
  • Normal VR startup works without the developer TCP server. Build metadata records the exact source revisions, executable hash and production feature flags.

The owner considers this build playable. Performance optimization continues: demanding scenes can still slow down, and these changes do not promise headset-refresh-rate rendering. The final performance/flicker checks were headless; earlier Quest 3 / VDXR acceptance covers the floor and stability fixes.

Extract the entire Windows ZIP and use RunVR-VDXR.bat, RunVR-SteamVR.bat or RunVR-Oculus.bat; use RunFlat.bat for ordinary flat play. Keep your existing saves/ folder when updating. Older emulator savestates may be incompatible with the precision-enabled executable; memory-card saves are separate.

Supply your own Medal of Honor SLUS-00974 (NTSC-U) disc image. No game data or retail BIOS is included. See ALPHA_README.md for setup, controls and remaining alpha limitations.

v0.1.5 - Native VR Alpha

@github-actions github-actions released this 15 Oct 09:51

This update brings the original HUD into VR, with displays anchored to your hands and always facing you.

  • Hand-anchored HUD: health and compass follow the left hand; ammo and weapon icon follow the right.
  • Original appearance preserved: uses the game's native artwork, fonts, and number formatting.
  • Always readable: HUD panels face your head without flipping as you rotate your wrists.
  • Tracking fallback: the corresponding original HUD returns when a hand loses tracking.
  • Enabled by default in the VDXR, SteamVR, and Oculus launchers.
  • Added a desktop spectator mirror for watching the VR view.
  • Added tracked weapon support for the Luger pistol.
  • Increased smooth-turn speed by 20%.
  • Disabled the newly introduced dithering effect in VR to preserve the clean image.

Updated controls

  • Left stick click: jump.
  • Right stick click: toggle crouch.

Launch using the .bat matching your OpenXR runtime: RunVR-VDXR.bat, RunVR-SteamVR.bat, or RunVR-Oculus.bat.

@FractalEngineer FractalEngineer released this 06 Oct 22:14

This update adds a laser sight and easier machine gun aiming.

  • Added a barrel laser: hold the right grip and the beam ends on the surface it hits.
  • The right grip no longer triggers the native aim.
  • A mounted machine gun now aims with one stick: hold the left grip.
  • Added tracking for the passport and the silenced pistol's suppressor.
  • Added a launcher per OpenXR runtime (VDXR, SteamVR, Oculus) in place of the single generic launcher.

@FractalEngineer FractalEngineer released this 05 Oct 19:21

This update puts the core controls and weapon tracking in place for playing the whole game in VR.

  • Added controller tracking profiles for all 10 weapon types.
  • Changed jump to right-stick click.

Medal of Honor Recompiled + 6DoF VR - v0.1.2 Alpha

@FractalEngineer FractalEngineer released this 05 Oct 15:41

Windows x64 update for Medal of Honor Recompiled.

Fresh extractions and release packages now render at the accepted internal
resolution by default. Previously a package with no settings.toml fell back
to the runtime's default native resolution and looked low-res in the headset.
RunVR.bat / vr/run_vr.ps1 now set PSX_INTERNAL_RESOLUTION (1080p,
overridable with -InternalResolution), so the fix applies with no user config.

Download moh-0.1.2-windows-x64.zip, extract everything to a writable folder,
then run RunFlat.bat or connect your OpenXR headset and run RunVR.bat.
Supply your own SLUS-00974 CUE/BIN image; no game data or retail BIOS is
included. Keep your previous saves/ when updating.

The release builds master with framework 3618bc00, bundled OpenBIOS, Windows
OpenGL and optional OpenXR. BUILD_INFO.json identifies the source revisions
and executable SHA-256. This is an unsigned testing release.

Medal of Honor Recompiled + 6DoF VR - v0.1.1 Alpha

@FractalEngineer FractalEngineer released this 05 Oct 10:05

v0.1.1 — Native VR Alpha

Windows x64 update with two accepted Quest 3 / Virtual Desktop VDXR fixes:

  • Correct headset brightness and contrast to match flat rendering. The XR
    copy now handles sRGB/linear encoding correctly and preserves presentation gamma.
  • Keep world tiles visible when turning your head in the tested scene. World
    geometry selection follows each eye's view, with unchanged eye FOV and native
    sector visibility. Movement-enabled headset gameplay was accepted.

Download moh-0.1.1-windows-x64.zip, extract everything to a writable folder,
then run RunFlat.bat or connect your OpenXR headset and run RunVR.bat.
Supply your own SLUS-00974 CUE/BIN image; no game data or retail BIOS is included.
Keep your previous saves/ when updating. See ALPHA_README.md for setup and controls.

The release builds the merged master fixes with framework 3618bc00, bundled
OpenBIOS, Windows OpenGL and optional OpenXR. BUILD_INFO.json identifies the
source revisions and executable SHA-256. This is an unsigned testing release.

Package verification: real-GL color checks and the strict visibility fixture
pass. A fresh extraction in a folder containing spaces cold-booted into Mission 1
with developer tools removed from PATH. Bundled overlay compilation, flat
save/load and normal exit passed.

@FractalEngineer FractalEngineer released this 03 Oct 13:11

Medal of Honor Recompiled + 6DoF VR - v0.1.0 Alpha

The first public native VR alpha brings Medal of Honor to PC with 6DoF head
tracking, per-eye rendering, tracked-rifle aiming and Touch controller input.
Traditional flat play remains supported through its own launcher.

Windows x64 | Experimental alpha | Quest 3 / Virtual Desktop / VDXR baseline

Download

Extract the entire ZIP, connect your headset with its OpenXR runtime active,
and run RunVR.bat. For flat play, use RunFlat.bat. Supply your own original
game CUE/BIN; the download includes no game data. See the setup steps below.

Contributors and testers are welcome: report an issue.
Quest 3 through Virtual Desktop with VDXR is the tested headset/runtime setup.

Install and play

  1. Download moh-0.1.0-windows-x64.zip and extract the entire ZIP to a writable
    folder. Keep the executable, assets, mods and overlay toolchain together.
  2. Supply your own Medal of Honor SLUS-00974 (NTSC-U) CUE/BIN image. The
    expected Track 01 size is 742,258,272 bytes, SHA-1
    faebe91db711f804e1a6a38613c804b2c370f340. No game data or retail BIOS dump
    is included. The package includes the redistributable OpenBIOS and its notice.
  3. For flat play, run RunFlat.bat and select your disc in the launcher.
  4. For VR, connect your headset, activate the intended OpenXR runtime
    (VDXR for the tested setup), and run RunVR.bat. Select your CUE when asked.
    The BIN files stay beside your CUE in their existing location.

The launchers remember the disc beside the executable. Normal VR boot includes
videos, menus and briefing; gameplay switches to per-eye rendering. No test save,
Python installation or development tools are required. A bundled Python/TCC
toolchain handles streamed code from your disc automatically; initial compilation
can take time. Saves are stored in saves/; keep them when replacing a build.

For an explicit disc path:

.\RunVR.bat -DiscPath "C:\Games\Medal of Honor\medal-of-honor.cue"

Run until you close the game. If VR startup fails, check that the headset is
connected and the intended OpenXR runtime is active. Startup errors remain visible
in the console. These binaries are unsigned.

Include build version, headset/runtime, connection method, mission/location,
reproduction steps and optional captures. Do not attach disc images or BIOS dumps.

Start with normal boot, menu navigation, movement, rifle combat, pause/resume,
save/load and exit. Tell us whether the problem also occurs in flat mode.
Game-specific work belongs in the game repository; generic framework changes are
being prepared for separate upstream review.

BUILD_INFO.json records source revisions and the executable SHA-256. Dependency
licenses are in licenses/ and bios/OpenBIOS.LICENSE; the framework uses
PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0.

Release verification: an extracted ZIP in a path containing spaces booted through
briefing into Mission 1 with an empty overlay cache and development tools removed
from PATH. The bundled TCC toolchain produced native overlays; flat save/load and
normal exit passed. Quest 3/VDXR acceptance is from the earlier gameplay baseline.
