FreeApply 1.0.6

Choose a tag to compare

@Stephentynan Stephentynan released this 29 Oct 07:05

Released 2026-10-29. App, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Disclosures and Recruiter Terms: version 1.0.6.

FreeApply now keeps applying from the conversation you set it up in, with no scheduled tasks, and Start works within seconds. The browser tool can attach your résumé again and stays in one tab. After updating, tell your AI assistant "set up FreeApply" once.

New

  • Saving your settings while FreeApply is applying asks what to do: complete the run (your new settings are picked up by the next run), or stop, update and continue (it finishes the job it's on, then starts again right away with your new settings).

Changed

  • FreeApply no longer uses scheduled tasks in your AI app. The conversation where you set it up keeps applying on its own, looks for new jobs again after a rest, and checks your email for replies every few hours, until you press Stop. Start picks it up again within seconds. If it stops for any other reason (for example your AI app's usage limit), tell your AI assistant "set up FreeApply" to start it again.
  • Setup carries on by itself the moment you save your settings or accept the Terms in the dashboard: no need to go back and say you're done.
  • Telling your AI assistant "set up FreeApply" when your settings and the Terms are already done starts applying right away, also after you pressed Stop, a "Stop after" limit was reached, or while it was resting between searches.
  • The "Stop after" limits in Settings count from when you last pressed Start, and stop FreeApply until you press Start again or tell your AI assistant "set up FreeApply". The daily cap pauses it until tomorrow.
  • The dashboard says "Not running" when no conversation in your AI app is running FreeApply.
  • FreeApply does all its browser work in one tab, job after job, and keeps the browser connection open between jobs instead of opening a new tab or connection each time.
  • Clearer instructions for the AI on several of FreeApply's tools, and checking FreeApply's status no longer changes anything on your computer.

Fixed

  • After the AI app signed in to another account, or its FreeApply task was deleted, the dashboard showed "On" and waited for a run that never came.
  • FreeApply's optional browser tool couldn't attach your résumé or cover letter unless your AI app was working in the FreeApply documents folder, so those applications stopped as blocked. Updating with the installer fixes the browser tool you already have.

Legal
No changes.

Upgrading
After updating, tell your AI assistant "set up FreeApply" once. It removes FreeApply's old scheduled tasks and starts applying from that conversation; leave that conversation open. Six of FreeApply's tools have new names (for example freeapply_status is now freeapply_get_status). If you approved FreeApply's tools one by one in your AI app, it asks once more for those six.

FreeApply 1.0.5

Choose a tag to compare

@Stephentynan Stephentynan released this 29 Oct 04:09

Released 2026-10-28. App, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Disclosures and Recruiter Terms: version 1.0.5.

FreeApply now keeps applying on its own once setup is done, with Start and Stop at the top of the dashboard and what it's working on right now. New employer emails show up within 15 minutes, the dashboard updates live, and Needs you speaks plain English.

New

  • Start and Stop at the top of every dashboard page, next to what FreeApply is doing right now ("Running · Applying to IT Support at Acme"), so you can see at a glance that it's working.
  • FreeApply starts applying on its own as soon as setup is complete, and keeps going while your AI app is open. If it stops (nothing new to apply to, or your AI app paused), it starts again by itself within the hour. Press Stop anytime; press Start again and it picks up within seconds while your AI app is open.
  • With your email connected, FreeApply checks for new emails from employers every 15 minutes and shows them in Replies right away; your AI app sorts them at its next reply check. "Check email now" in Replies looks right away.
  • The dashboard updates by itself within a few seconds when anything changes: new jobs, applications, replies and questions appear as they come in.

Changed

  • A run no longer stops after 50 minutes: it keeps applying until there's nothing new to apply to. You can still set limits per run in Settings → Advanced.
  • Needs you speaks plainly: notes your AI assistant wrote for itself no longer show up as questions to answer. Those jobs are listed under "Stuck" with what the site wants in plain words (a document FreeApply doesn't have, or a question only you can answer). "Blocked" is now "Stuck" and "Accounts to create" is "Accounts to make".
  • The sponsored card sits right under the menu on Home.

Fixed

  • When setup opens at the email step after an update, connecting your email or choosing to enter all passwords yourself now takes you to setup's first page so you can check your other answers, instead of skipping to the end.

Legal
The Disclosures now describe how email is checked: your AI assistant every 4 hours through a connector or your saved email login, and, with a saved login, FreeApply itself every 15 minutes, keeping only the sender, subject and date until your assistant sorts them.

Upgrading
Open the dashboard and accept the updated Terms. If you finished setup before this version, FreeApply doesn't start on its own: press Start at the top of the dashboard when you want it to.

FreeApply 1.0.4

Choose a tag to compare

@Stephentynan Stephentynan released this 29 Oct 02:34

Released 2026-10-28. App, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Disclosures and Recruiter Terms: version 1.0.4.

FreeApply now reads employer replies itself, with a Gmail app password that stays on your computer and that your AI assistant never sees. Setup asks you to connect email or to enter all passwords yourself.

New

  • Track employer replies without a Gmail connector: connect Gmail in setup or in Settings → Email replies. FreeApply opens Google's app password page, you create one named FreeApply and paste it back, and it checks the connection right away. The app password is saved only on your computer, FreeApply reads your replies itself, and your AI assistant never sees it. Only emails that name a company you applied to, or that come from a hiring system, are passed to your AI assistant; newsletters and job ads stay on your computer. The Gmail connector still works if you prefer it.
  • Job-site sign-ins: save your password in the browser your AI assistant uses and it fills it in when a site asks you to sign in. Your AI assistant clicks into the sign-in box so the browser fills it, then clicks Sign in, but never types, reads or stores a job-site password. If there's more than one account to choose from, it asks you which one to use, and it never uses "Sign in with Google" or similar buttons.
  • If your AI app can't open web pages, the installer can add a free browser tool (Microsoft's Playwright) that works in your own Chrome or Edge with the sites you're signed in to.

Changed

  • Setup now has an email step: connect your email so FreeApply can track replies, or choose "I'll enter all passwords myself" and sign in to every site yourself. FreeApply starts applying once you've chosen, and only you can make that choice.
  • Searching, writing and form-filling helpers now read only the part of the instructions they need, load only the FreeApply tools they use, and one helper writes the cover letters for up to five jobs, so a job search uses fewer of your AI plan's tokens.
  • FreeApply's instructions to your AI app about its own tools are about 14% shorter, with nothing left out, so each job-search session uses fewer tokens.

Fixed

  • Recording the same employer email a second time no longer changes the job's outcome.
  • The Replies tab shows when each email arrived in your own time zone, not in UTC.
  • A cover letter now shows on an application only if it was really sent. When a form wanted the letter typed into a box instead of attached, the agent submitted without it but the record said it was sent. The agent now pastes the saved letter into such boxes.
  • The honesty check on cover letters no longer rejects true statements made with a different form of a word your résumé uses (your résumé says "Leads a crew", the letter says "I led a crew"), or the job's own posting number.

Legal
The Terms of Service (Credentials) and the Privacy Policy now cover the optional email app password: kept only in a file on your computer, used only to sign in to your mail server, never sent to us or shown to your AI assistant.

Upgrading
Open the dashboard and accept the updated Terms. Then, in Settings → Email replies, connect your email or choose "I'll enter all passwords myself": FreeApply (and auto-run) applies again once you've chosen.

FreeApply 1.0.3

Choose a tag to compare

@Stephentynan Stephentynan released this 28 Oct 07:36

Released 2026-10-28. App, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Disclosures and Recruiter Terms: version 1.0.3.

A small maintenance release: FreeApply now has the same version number everywhere it's listed, and its release notes on GitHub are easier to read. Nothing changes in how FreeApply works, and there's nothing to do.

Changed

  • FreeApply's version number is now the same everywhere it's listed: the website, the app, GitHub, the MCP Registry and Glama.
  • Release notes on GitHub are easier to read: each item on one line, without formatting symbols.

Nothing to do.

FreeApply 1.0.2

Choose a tag to compare

@Stephentynan Stephentynan released this 28 Oct 07:13

FreeApply 1.0.2

Released 2026-10-28. App, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Disclosures and Recruiter Terms: version 1.0.2.

Cover letters your way, written with the skills each job asks for that you really have, and attached as PDFs. Plus cheaper, faster applying: the right AI model for each step, 18 tools instead of 22, and fewer steps per job.

New

  • Cover letters your way: Settings → Cover letters sets when to write one, the tone, the length, what to highlight,
what never to mention and your sign-off. Every letter is still checked against your résumé before it's used.
  • Applications that speak the job's language: for each posting, FreeApply notes the skills and tools it asks for that
your résumé backs up, so your answers and cover letter use the employer's own words and applicant tracking systems
find them. Skills you don't have are never claimed.
  • Ready-to-attach files: each cover letter is saved as a PDF, and a copy of your résumé is kept with them, in a
FreeApply folder in your Documents. With Claude in Chrome they're uploaded straight into the form; other browsers
    pick them from that folder.
  • The right AI model for each part of the work: searching and email run on your AI app's smallest model, forms on
a middle one, and cover letters on its strongest. FreeApply checks which models your app offers when you set it up
and after each update, and picks the best for each; you can choose others in Settings → Advanced settings → AI
models. Apps that can't switch models keep using the one you picked.
  • The website has a News page: every release, our latest posts and articles, and links to FreeApply on X, Bluesky,
    dev.to and GitHub.

Changed

  • Fewer, clearer tools for your AI app (18 instead of 22). Checking for duplicates is now part of claiming a job, the
instructions for a task come with the first status check, the résumé is saved with the other settings, and employer
emails and outcomes are recorded in one place. Several tools have clearer names, so your AI app picks the right one.
  • Fewer steps per job: your AI app no longer re-checks which job sites are signed in before every job (a site that
signed you out simply takes no new jobs until you sign in again), and an unattended run's time and application
limits and the dashboard's Stop button are checked right before each submit.
  • Uses less of your AI plan: each cover letter is sent to FreeApply once instead of three times, and your résumé
and cover letters are attached straight from their folder, so your AI app never has to read the files themselves.
  • Clearer answers when something is wrong: asking about a job that doesn't exist, saving settings only you can
change, or a request with a missing or misspelled detail now says exactly what to fix instead of doing nothing.
Job postings are read only from public web pages, never from your own computer or home network.
  • The website is written in plain language for job seekers; the technical details have their own page.

Legal

No changes.

Upgrading

Nothing to do. The new tools and instructions arrive together with the app update. Cover-letter settings start
with sensible defaults; change them any time in Settings → Cover letters.

FreeApply 1.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@Stephentynan Stephentynan released this 28 Oct 01:12

FreeApply 1.0.1

Released 2026-10-27. App, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Disclosures and Recruiter Terms: version 1.0.1.

Clearer tools for your AI app (22 instead of 25), a Needs you tab that asks each question once in plain words, and problem reports you can send, each only with your OK. Remove jobs from the dashboard. The Privacy Policy changed, so you'll be asked to accept it again.

New

  • Remove a job from the dashboard: Applications → Remove deletes it with its notes, form answers and recorded emails,
after you confirm. Only you can remove jobs; your AI app has no way to.
  • Saved answers from the conversation. When you answer a form question in chat, your AI can save the answer and reuse it
on later forms (and remove it again if you ask).
  • Needs you: a question several jobs ask now shows up once, and your answer goes to all of them. FreeApply no longer
stops to ask something you already answered, and a similar question comes with your earlier answer filled in for
    you to check.
  • Needs you: jobs whose account is made on the same sign-up page share one card, and one "I made the account" sends
them all back in the queue. Different employers on a shared careers site keep separate cards.
  • Problem reports: when something in FreeApply goes wrong, it is noted under Settings → Data sharing → Problems, with
your name, contact details, resume text, profile links and home-folder path removed. Each report shows exactly what
    would be sent and goes to FreeApply only if you tick "I agree to share this report with FreeApply" and press Send;
Dismiss deletes it. Nothing is ever sent on its own.

Changed

  • FreeApply now gives your AI app 22 tools instead of 25: the résumé, Gmail reply-check and data-sharing tools were each
merged into one. Every tool has a clearer description, a title, an explanation of each setting with its allowed values,
and marks for what it can change, so your AI picks the right step more often (for example, recording an employer email
rather than only setting the outcome). Each tool also says exactly what it returns, and long job lists can be read
    page by page.
  • The signed instructions your AI follows were updated for the new tools. FreeApply 1.0.0 keeps its own instructions
    until you update.
  • FreeApply's source code is now released under the MIT License (LICENSE in the repository). The FreeApply name and
logo are not covered, and the Terms of Service still govern use of FreeApply and of the services we host.
  • Needs you: questions are written as short, plain questions you answer by typing, from a dropdown or by picking
options; the form's own wording and FreeApply's notes are under Advanced. Blocked jobs say plainly what the site
asked for (a "prove you're a person" check, a code, a warning) and offer "I applied myself", "Try again later" and
"Skip this job". The account email is picked on the card instead of in a pop-up.
  • Dashboard: the Terms, Privacy Policy, Disclosures and Recruiter Terms now open from a footer at the bottom of every
page, in both Simple and Advanced view, instead of from tabs in the top menu.

Legal

  • Privacy Policy: a new "Problem reports" part says what a report contains, that each one is sent only with its own
consent, and that sent reports are deleted from our server after 90 days. Because the text changed, you are asked to
    accept the documents again.

Upgrading

Open the dashboard once and accept the updated Privacy Policy; FreeApply's tools wait until you do.

FreeApply 1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Stephentynan Stephentynan released this 27 Oct 20:36

Released 2026-10-27. App, Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Disclosures and Recruiter Terms: version 1.0.0.

The first public release. FreeApply finds jobs that fit your settings, applies through the AI app you already use,
tracks every application in a dashboard on your computer and checks Gmail for employer replies.

What's in FreeApply

  • Finds jobs that fit. Searches the job sites you choose for roles that match your targets, pay floor and
locations, and skips jobs and reposts it has already tracked.
  • Applies for you on employer sites and job boards with your real details, your résumé and answers you saved once.
Submissions are paced, and a job site that signs you out or shows its own daily limit is paused while the others
    continue.
  • Never invents experience. Cover letters and answers are checked against your résumé and settings. Anything it
can't back up is refused, and it asks you instead.
  • Knows when to stop. CAPTCHAs, new accounts, passwords and questions your settings don't answer go to the Issues
tab for you. It never types a password, creates an account or solves a CAPTCHA.
  • Dashboard at http://127.0.0.1:7878, reachable only from your computer: Overview, Applications, Replies, Issues
and Settings, with charts, search and CSV export.
  • Reply checks. With your AI app's Gmail connector it checks for employer replies every 4 hours (you can change
this), records acknowledgements, assessments, interviews, rejections and offers, and stars or labels them as you
    choose.
  • Unattended runs within the time and application limits you set.
  • Signed workflow. The agent's procedures and limits ship signed with our release key. Any edit locks the tools
until the official copy is restored, and an update is installed only when its signature checks out.
  • Data sharing is your choice, in Settings → Data sharing, where you can preview exactly what would be sent and
delete everything already shared. Your résumé and contact details leave your computer only if you join the
    Recruiter Talent Pool.
  • One sponsored card in the dashboard, labeled "Sponsored" and chosen on your computer. No ad scripts, no trackers,
and no data sent to show it.
  • Works with Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf.

New since the 0.3 previews

  • The app and its legal documents now share one version number, starting with 1.0.0. The Terms were 1.0 and the
    Privacy Policy 1.8.
  • Accepting the Terms carries over to later versions. The dashboard asks you again only when the text of a legal
document changes, not with every update.

Legal

  • Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Disclosures and Recruiter Terms: version 1.0.0, effective October 27, 2026.
  • Changed text: Terms section 13 (General) and Privacy Policy section 10 (Changes) now say that the version number is
the FreeApply release the document ships with, and that the dashboard asks you to accept again when the text
    changes. Nothing else changed.

Upgrading from a preview (0.3.x)

  • Claude Desktop: download freeapply.mcpb from https://www.mybotsai.com/install/ and install it the same way as
    before.
  • Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf: run the install command from https://www.mybotsai.com/install/ again.
  • Your data in ~/.freeapply stays as it is. The dashboard asks you once to accept the 1.0.0 Terms and Privacy
Policy, and the agent tools wait until you do. Your data-sharing choices are kept.

Requirements

  • Claude Desktop: nothing else. It runs FreeApply on its own built-in Node.js.
  • Other apps: Node.js 22.13 or newer.
  • Windows, macOS or Linux.
